hmm tempted with the new 620 coming out. I don't need maps on my rides, I like to go get lost and then figure out how to get home. Never had one of these though, getting a rebate from work for my gym membership, figured it would be nice to track heart rates etc.. while exercising (running/gym and cycling).
Any thoughts ?

Has anyone picked one of these up yet? I'm thinking about buying one (work is paying for it) and think that they look quite good value for money. I have no need for training software, power meter integration etc. As far as I can see, the only PITA is no cadence.
If you have one or have tried one, what do you think? The other option is to pick up an 800 as they are now quite cheap.

I've got the Touring not the Touring Plus. Is it specifically the Touring plus you're looking for feedback on?

Either really. As far as I can see, for similarish monies the 800 will give me the option of cadence. However, I like the idea of the route planning stuff that the touring will do. However, a couple of people online seem to suggest that it is rather hit and miss. How have you got on with yours?

Well, I mainly got it for long rides heading out of London to navigate the first 30km of London sprawl on 100k+ rides.
The first time I tested it, I plotted a simple 30km out and back ride into the Kent lanes. On the way back, it hung and it wouldn't do anything. When I finally managed to get it going again, it tried to route me back in the wrong way of the out and back. Luckily, I knew where I was going.
The second time I used it, I was attempting the spiral ride on my own, I took a wrong turn an it routed me straight to the finish.
After that, I came home and looked at forums. As I was one of the first recipients, I couldn't really find anything out about the specific model however as it uses the same navigation as the 810, I saw the same problems.
I was instructed to turn the rerouting function off and that pretty much sorted my problems. It also can't count the right number of exits on a roundabout. It clearly means the first exit but says the third exit and vise versa. Possibly Americans thinking the UK ride on the other side of the road.
The upload to Garmin connect for strava doesn't really provide any more data than my phone apart from the temperature.
Still getting to terms with it but certainly don't trust it as a replacement for a map. -

I usually turn off the turn-by-turn and rerouting function on my Garmin, and just rely on following the highlighted route, I loved my Garmin but it took me quite a while to come to term with it.

What's the best in-front-of-stem Garmin 800 mount these days?
There's now lots of options - Garmin, ReWare, Zipp, CheesyPooFly, McLiddleFartBlurps etc?
Durability >>> Cost

Barfly 2.0

I had a 3D printed one. Threaded the screw on the first ever use. Had to hacksaw it off the bike.
I have a K-edge now. A bit heavier. But so much more solid. Plus having 2 bolts means its a bit friendlier to crabon bars.

I have a K-edge now
I avoided them based on cost and some horror stories about the metal machining away the plastic mount on the Garmin.

Thanks peeps.
This looks very close to the bars. Definitely enough room for the 800 to twist in front of the stem I take it?

It has two mounting positions, one nearer the bars for the smaller Garmins like the 200 and one further away for the 800/810 etc.

The new ones have a plastic insert where you mount the Garmin. This can be be unbolted and turned 90 deg for us 910xt users. I was kinda hoping replacements would be available too.

I was asking for my road bike but I guess I could go a tiny bit faster with one for my TT bike as well (I currently use a Profile Design stalk). You want rid of it? How many nuggets?

I know how to do this for downloaded routes but is there a way to turn off turn-by-turn when you get the garmin to route you?

are there ant+ speed sensors who work well with an edge 500 ? i read a few reviews about the garmin gsc10 and most been not to positiv about the unit.
i like to record speed n distance at indoor track where gps signal is weak. mostly looking for an option to messure correct speed, cadence is not that big issue.
thanks in advance -
• #770
I use a couple of different ANT+ speed sensors- one is a Bontrager unit, which once you have thrown the crap rubber band it comes with in the bin and zip-tied it in place works very well, the other is a unit that SRM re-brands and it also is very reliable.
The second unit can be found with quite a few different brand names printed on it, but the unit shape is quite distinctive.

Just have to mention that great service from Garmin (via Evans cycles) for a no questions asked replacement of my Garmin within 7 working days!

You can have it as a Xmas present. Its unused. I'll pop it in the post when I hit the UK on the 20th.
PM on its way.

Anyone with a 910xt that can confirm the battery life with GPS enabled. Its quoted at 20 hours. But I'd like it to last say 25 hours. Aside from riding, and thus finishing, faster. Is there a light and small USB charger I could bring, and can I charge it while its logging?
-
• #775
Right the 910xt battery is only 650mAh. So its not going to need a big charger. The question is will charging it interfer with its function while in use?
