Just bought a NOH Performance bundle 800 for £260 from Wiggle. Sign up to their newsletter and get a £5 off, and do it through topcashback and get a tenner (ish) back as well.

This was mostly because I got annoyed at having to get my phone out repeatedly after losing my way around Biggin Hill yesterday. Could end up being my silliest purchase ever...

Oh, and if you do use topcashback but don't have an account yet can you do me a solid and use this link please? http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/dglsdms
I feel like one of those dickheads on hotukdeals...

Are you sure that is the course length and not the distance you currently are from the start of the course, post a link to ridewithgps of the route.

start the course, then click menu -> courses -> review course.

So- does anyone use openmap to download extra maps on top of the basemap?
Or are there other better free map software?
Need to know before buying one. -

Need to know before buying one.Presumably you are referring to openstreetmap.
Generally you would use openstreetmap instead of the basemap, not as well. There is an option in the 800 to enable/disable individual maps.
When you say free map software what do you want to do with it? Create maps, create gpx tracks/ routes /waypoints etc. or something else?

In the UK- I'd like to have down to the smallest of routes, so that I cna import a route and be able to follow it without getting lost (as I do currently with armGPS). And the same when I go to the States.
And thanks! -

Henry, I just bought the base map version and have downloaded the opensource maps I haven't found a footpath that aren't included yet, all for the price of 15 minutes of searching and 10quid memeory stick...

Awesome.

Ridewithgps.com has good instructions on how to do it, so its just a case of downloading the ones you want (I just used garmins website) and following the instructions.

Edge 200 for sale if anyone wants Finally taking the plunge for an upgraded one with HRM and Cadence, not sure between 500 or 510, leaning towards 500 because its bargain atm.

How fast should a Garmin find your location? Quite often my Garmin can't find me for a good mile or two but sometimes it goes as far as ten miles - is mine broken or is it just a naughty cloud following me around blocking its view?
-

Pulled a trigger on 500 at sweet £137 (1.5% quidco cashback) with HRM and Cadence sensor which I think is pretty good deal (still cursing my self for not taking the 7% cashback advantage from quidco last week).
510 was too much for my wallet considering the extras.
So do you have to buy extra cadence sensor for other bike or is it easy to swap?

On average I would say something like 2 minutes max.
Just tried my 800, took about 35 seconds, my etrex nearer 45 seconds. The etrex is the older legend not the newer 10,20,30 range.

My forerunner 305 is usually a couple of minutes and my edge 800 is usually within 30 seconds.
But you should keep the unit still to allow it to aquire satelites most quickly.
I usually leave my 305 on the windowsill while I do some final faffing, the 800 is quick enough to turn it on and stand and wait..

I've found the 800 finds all the satellites much quicker if you are stationary rather than moving off down the road.
-
• #673
yeah mine will take at least a couple of miles to connect to a satellite if it's moving, otherwise it's about 30 second.
-
• #674
I dont think ive actually turned mine off since I got it

Thanks all - just need to be more patient then!
