Oh Strava you cunts. Why would it have lost the PM data? Would it be because there's no speed sensor/distance data?...

Can anyone point me in the direction of a cadence sensor that'll work with my Garmin Forerunner 35 watch? Preferably something that is cheaper than the Garmin official version.

Buy one of these, plug into a laptop or pc and format the card.
https://tinyurl.com/y9da8tzgAs a bonus if you need to add new maps to the card much easier and quicker if directly plugged into a laptop. The garmin transfer rate via a cable is abyssmal.

Have you exported it in a .gpx format? If so, Strava doesn't include power data. Ever. No idea why, they just don't.

So I'm slowly figuring out the whole gps thing and I've mastered the basics on my Etrex 30 in that I have downloaded an open street maps UK map and I know how to create a track on ridewithgps and use it to navigate on roads.
I also want to be able to use it for hiking and offroad cycling with more detailed map information. I can't find these maps open sourced as easily - Is the easiest option to subscribe to birdseye, or is there another option?

Garmin sell LandRanger Topo or something maps

With some poking OSM looks like it might provide something like what you want:

I've found OSM-based http://www.openfietsmap.nl maps good enough for everything. Free and Garmin-ready. Show footpaths, stiles, gates etc.
You don't say you need it, but I never have any success routing on the device.
Edit: Not sure if contours are included... have a feeling for the UK I needed a separate contour map from somewhere else, whereas for the Alps it was already included.

Great links! Need to take a proper look at that second one later.
That highlands thread is useful - I guess if you really want the fine detail you have to pay for it.

I'm running the same Dutch basemap and it is amazing, but I'd just love a contour or two! It's still nowhere near as rich as an OS map, but I guess beggars can't be choosers.

"pay for it" or create it yourself and add it to OSM for others :)

OSM in the UK has optional contours. Maybe try here for NL with contours http://www.openfietsmap.nl/

How does one ethically sell a garmin with all of the usual garmin 'quirks'?
I want rid of my 810, am going to wahoo -
• #4495
You don't need to list its quirks, you only need to list specific problems with your device, ie. scratches, if the screen is fucked, whatever. It's up to people buying an 810 to know it's a piece of shit :)

I sold mine under the appetising strapline... "Full disclosure, this is a dog's breakfast of a product (you can read my thoughts on it in The Garmin Thread) - or check the terrible reviews on the Garmin site. So buyer beware.."
It sold..
-
• #4497
Thanks both, I've tried to describe the quirks mine has over any others, and will try and price accordingly.
-
• #4498
Also for all you know the buyer might never use it for anything more than logging commutes to Strava and never encounter any of the issues you have.
-
• #4499
It's an 810 though, so they probably fucking will! :D

You can get an out-of-warranty 810 'refurbed' by Garmin for £82.50, and then sell the resulting brand new one with manufacturer screen protector and all on eBay for about £125 (guesstimate). At least that's the arithmetic I used a couple of months back, but I kept the new one because it actually seems to work.
HR, no power...
