  • Why should I be out of pocket when it's their shit that fails? If we fuck up a website, the client expects a refund for the downtime, why should Garmin(imum amount of testing) escape this?

  • When you are successful at this please share your strategy.

  • Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.

I’m afraid you will need to cover the cost of posting the device to us, as per our Warranty Terms which can be found at this link: https://www8.garmin.com/support/warranty.html

As you will see from the information above Garmin is not liable for covering the costs of postage when sending a device to us to be replaced.

  • Although Which? make it sound like I shouldn't be out of pocket for a faulty item:
    http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/action/letter-to-refuse-paying-the-cost-of-returning-a-faulty-item-

But this is related to a retailer. Does the same thing apply to a manufacturer?

  • "Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act are against the retailer – the company that sold you the product – not the manufacturer, and so you must take any claim to the retailer."
    http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-rights-act

So I wonder if I should've been making warranty claims through Amazon rather than Garmin directly? This would've netted me new replacement items too, rather than refurbs.

  • Fuck it, I'm gonna see what Amazon say about this.

  • Amazon don't normally charge for faulty returns, they provide a pre-paid postage sticker.

  • They responded quickly. Unfortunately the order was 'Fulfilled by Amazon' which means it came from a 3rd party seller, which means they can't offer a replacement. I could get a refund though.

  • This is what I told you on Twitter :)

Your contract is with the retailer who sold you the faulty goods, not the manufacturer. So the retailer should sort it out.

And the answer to your postage question is no, it's not unreasonable. In fact retailers are legally required to pay your return postage costs for a faulty item.

  • You did? I bought it from Amazon but they just fulfilled the order which means it came from their warehouse but it was some other company's stock. How does that work with the 'retailer' distinction?

  • I did. Don't worry I didn't think you'd noticed. I know you have no idea what my real name is but I don't want to link it to my forum account so you'll just have to work out which tweet :)

I'm fairly sure your contract is with Amazon still, even if it's another company's stock. The receipt should make that clear, but Amazon are always very good on returns (I find) and if they're offering a refund it sounds like you'd be best taking it and buying a new one?

  • You sure you've tweeted the right person? I only mentioned it today and other than Garmin, there haven't been any other replies to it.

  • My farming decided to suddenly install updates mid ride earlier this week.

    FFS

  • Surely just get a refund and buy a new one then.

  • That's the plan.

  • I've had enough of the 810 too. Even with proper Garmin maps it still powers off for no reason. Did it again today and I'm fucking sick of it. It's going back to Handtec.

  • So my Garmin 200 elevations always been a bit off but it's gotten ridiculous at this stage. Did 1,656m this morning and it calculated 865m. Is there any fix or is it just time for an upgrade?

  • Would anyone be so kind as to snip the first 2k off a run of mine? Whilst I would love the 15:38 5k time to be genuine its five minutes faster than I have run that distance so needs to be corrected, thanks Fenix II.

  • cant you just crop the start off in strava?

  • Have you got the file somewhere? I can pick it up to amend

    or try here http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl/

  • cant you just crop the start off in strava?

I had forgotten that you could do this, have now done it, thanks.

  • Your product was shipped on 21 December 2015

Garmin have replaced the faulty HRM-Tri strap. Let's see if this one works...

  • Do other straps work with it? I have three Powertap straps sitting around doing not much.

  • Do other straps work with it?

With the 920xt? I think so, you could try pairing them with one of your Garmins to see.
