Maybe, but that isn't really the point, is it?
Someone talks shit on the internet.
Group of people who are having shit talked about them get upset and decide to confront dude about it, but instead of just asking to have a chat or sending an email and keeping it internet based, they dupe him into meeting up under the pretense that he was going to sell someone his bike.
Regardless of who the violence, he's going to be out-numbered for what should have been simply a conversation, there was NO WAY that was going to go well.I recently had something come up in my personal life, and a friend invited me over to talk about our problems. When I arrived there were her and two of her flatmates that wanted to talk about our problem, and that was completely un-productive, I got defensive and upset and no good came of it. It would be the same in any situation.
This.
If someone duped me into a meeting, turned up on mass slung a lock on my bike and were aggresive it would not end well!
Whether the intention was to be aggresive or not it would feel that way if you were the individual.

I am part of the 5th Floor crew, but I know nothing about this, as I wasn't there (I flit in and out, busy busy busy)... so I can't say what actually happened. But, I have been part of similar 'beefs' with the crew and other ex-members who have gotten pissed off for some reason. There was one situation, whereby an ex-member was constantly trolling and threatening fights etc (the crew as a whole had stopped speaking to him since he had done some ill-considered petty criminal act), and that ex-member somehow managed to get a few more people on board without those others knowing the full story. A Face to face meeting, that was prefined as 'no violence' was arranged in that situation, to speak properly about whatever each side considered the beef to be, but said ex-member kept chickening out of the meet, yet continued to exacerbate the situation from afar with threats. So he was just ignored, and eventually he went away.
I could make a guess as to what happened with Loic, based on what's happened before (not just the above situation). All I'll say is, nobody should make any presumptions without knowing any actual facts, since stories can get misinterpreted based on speculation and certain presumptions (ahem, "thick middle class white boys, grow up and get proper jobs"). I'm not saying the the crew isn't to blame since I don't know the details, but I'm just concerned that this thread is very damaging, since the speculation is very one-sided.
If indeed, Loic was 'jumped on', as opposed to a situation getting out of hand and into some kind of scrap-come-fight, then that is not on. Violence is avoidable (although I have had someone start a fight with me, and it's pretty hard to not fight back), and nobody should be started on in the way that people are saying he was.
I also agree, that the pretend meeting to collect a bike was a bad idea, presuming that's what actually was the premise; but again, speculation.

Shit, I thought Loic was just this mild mannered French gentle giant who's into classic French and English period bikes, wears a cape and smokes a pipe. But obviously he has another life.
Me too. Lovely bloke.
Whatever happened, it is not acceptable to beat people up and I hope the offenders are shitting their pants over the consequences.

So the 5th floor beat some duder up because they were in rival fixie prick gangs?!?!?!
I had allways just put up with those 5th floor dudes.. the whole thing does seem a bit gay, but i have always got on with Rudy, so just ignored their self-elevating blogging and such shit.
But this is fucking rediculous!... if it is true, then what a bunch of tools!
I was starting to think this anyway though, but thats mostly due to the way Johnny Fitz reacted to the coaches after being told he was too unfit, and lacked the nesecary riding skills to ride the novice session at Herne Hill.....

Why don't roadies have crews and beefs? Hmmm...
-
• #90
I think I'd be a bit embarrassed being part of any group of people that referred to themselves as a 'crew'.
I mean, the So Solid Crew sounds like a constipation self-help group.
The Blackout Crew and their funny donkey music.
The Rock Steady Crew are anything but steady. I don't recognize a single one of them from 'back in the day'.
So who are the 5th Floor Crew? A bunch of silly sausages, if you ask me. If you can't all play nice doing your spins and wheelies, then I think you should all take up a different hobby, like making some nice Airfix models, or maybe Dungeons and Dragons.

So are any of the actual protagonists from 5th floor crew going to respond or are we just left to speculate?
My abiding memory of Johnny Fitz has always makes me chuckle. The inverse nominative determinism man whose bike was so clearly the wrong size (but it did have twin spoks) on a Brighton ride was comedy genius.

This happened to me on my way home from school once when I was 13. I called someones mum ugly and I got jumped and beaten up in an alleyway by him and his friends

My abiding memory of Johnny Fitz has always makes me chuckle. The double inverse nominative determinism of a less than athletic man whose bike was so clearly the wrong size (but it did have twin spoks) on a Brighton ride was comedy genius.
My abiding memory of you on a bike is getting lost and following a garmin resolutely.
