I imagine the most "tactical" game would involve a cap on each individual player's total court time allowance (whatever length game divided by X number of players). Keeping track of that may be tricky though?
Exactly what I mean, but didn't express clearly enough.
It's a friendly game, so the coaches could keep track of time & and there should be enough players around to help. I think it's worth a try.

I think thats the obvious way to do it:
90 Minute game x 3 players = 270 minutes of player time / e.g.15 players =18minutes avg court time.
Totally exact is way too hard/impractical. Call it a maximum of e.g. 20 or 25 minutes per player. All you have to do is record the on/off times of each player. Maybe we can make an app.
Another methods could be: forced sub every minute (or so), play everyone once per game?
Just once? For how long? Can we put Bill on once and sub him a minute later?

forced sub every minute is shit, we did this in Geneva last march, and it was awful.

Every player could have a stopwatch around their neck, might be a safety hazard?
Promotional stopwatches are about £2.50 a piece.

The games are going to be so long, I honestly can't seeing it being a problem (re: playing time). And if teams vote for contentious coaches, they wouldn't be dicks about it. Players who want to play should just tell their coach, and he should put them on (assuming it's a possibility at that moment)

Why don't do it via a rotational basis as per the BM "Team B" method? Sub when someone foot downs or when the coach calls for it, Jono was the 'coach' IIRC ;)
-
• #85
That removes all the fun tactics if you just rotate in and out (in order) though?

How about we don't have too many damned extra rules for this, it's supposed to be a laugh.

I'd rather not play tbh... Thought this was just an excuse for a piss-up and a nice trip to north London...

Just let the coach figure it out.
I completly agree with Gabes, why does everything we do have to be over complicated? -
• #89
i heard it was an issue with the first BM in new york, was also an issue with some teams in the paris BFF BM.
I like Jono's idea of putting a cap on a players total court time, but how could it be policed?
*not that i will be playing in this tourney, but think it's an interesting issue that effects all BM's
coach teh >30?

Actually, we're going to need help with refs on this. 3 hours is a long time for one person. Swapping will be necessary. And we'll need someone who can keep track of the score ("Anyone know the score?" "4-4"). If you could come down and help, Mr. T, that would be awesomeness.

Do shuffles count? (Kidding.)

I completly agree with Gabes, why does everything we do have to be over complicated? It's one more rule, I really don't think it's that big of a deal to keep track of, and a little extra work on the side-lines. The upside is that it makes for a more tactically nuanced contest, and all the players get the same amount of court-time.
My biggest reservation about the BM format is that it's obvious that some players get to play hardly at all, which isn't fun.
Given that this is a friendly match, it seems an appropriate moment to trial a rule-change that might improve the BM format.

Ramble, ramble
Agreed, I've experienced a few people who said they wouldn't travel to a BM again because they don't think they'd get enough court time, etc.
Also BM format seems to be one-up-man-ship in which players you put on, then the "all star" line-ups go out and stay on for as long as possible (30-45 mins, etc) which is a little lame.

I agree that it would over-complicate things. Leave it to the coach. The game is 3 hours long! This will force teams to rotate players. Try leaving 3 (star) players on for an hour, whilst the other team is rotating players. They will get killed in the last 30 minutes.
If you don't think 3 hours is long enough, make the game 4 hours long. Or 5 hours. This is all we need to do.
