Out. The thought of wet roads has caused me to wet the bed.

Three quarters of an hour till the off and I'm still wavering. My inexpert reading of the weather maps indicated you will get hosed down at 9ish. The fact that I used you in that last sentence speaks volumes to me. I work in Victoria so I could leave the decision for another half hour but the fact that I haven't decided to ride already further indicates my heart isn't really in it tonight. I think what I really want is to go and get drunk.

and it's now pissing down. Ha.

This much rain deserves more Ha than just one. This is proper evil chuckle weather.

Lovely evening for it fellas / fellettes. I was envious, jealous and more than a little gutted that I couldn't make this one. Hope it was enjoyed by those who don't see rain as an issue.
Trust me, I'll be enduring my fair share of precipitation over the coming days.
I'll try and keep you updated. -

Everyone safely back, on the train at least. 8 hardy souls venturing out into a damp Kent, we were fortunate with the rain, with the worst of it over and done with early on the ride. A little surprise at the top of Exedown that required some orienteering but all in all a lovely (if dark on my part) ride.
Check out the Continental thread in the morning for an insight into Skully's evening.

Thanks for leading Andy, professionally managed and respectfully paced considering the conditions. See y'all ina couple of weeks.

well done kent 8 . old skool rep to be dished out
-
• #2990
Probably better to keep my rep slightly negative. Thank you everybody for staying in for Germany beating France in the world cup. Andy and Scarlett took the brunt of the rain on the ride out, the water collecting in Andys frame and Scarlett with mudguards, which seemed to have helped.
Skully knows how to build bikes but does not have the slightest clue how to repair a flat, blaming the Continentals. But against expectation he got the tyre back on his CXP14. I cried every time when I had a flat running those rims.
Ben, Gus and Mirco were riding very strong. Andy running the ever so great but bad year for German football gear ratio on his new bike made the best of the small group. Des knee was alright and he did not pay for the train back which was just as well as it was so slow.
It started raining when I went to bed. Thank you for the weather forecast.

ludwig you're an ass. I was calling you a Harbinger of Doom ladt night. The second hole Was Not in the same spot as the first - ergo, if the offending item caused both holes, it managed to move about 60 cm along the inside of the tyre. Rather that in my haste the first time, I didn't inflate tge new tyre properly.
Good luck Shoots... you doing JOGLE?!?!?

From Andy P's teasing words from last night I was expecting puncture hell (a la the epic). 2 in a night isn't that bad at all.
On a tyre question: I used to use armadillo's on my bob, but the nelson doesn't have adequate clearance. Is there something similar in a 23? (dillo is 25/23 crazy size)? Or am I without puncture protection (I hate changing tyres in public).

I was steeled for rain of biblical proportions last night - so given the little bit of rain that we actually got, in my book TNRC's luck with rain holds up. Brilliant night's riding all in - perfect temperature and lovely views of mist on the hills. Cheers to Andy for leading and Scarlett for managing the back and good work behind the scenes by Tim & Jonny to get us a closed road run at Exedown (didn't help my speed - but happy to get up it fixed).
Not sure that the rail networks are going to approve of the policy of only bothering to pay if the journey was quick enough... but does bring back fond memories of roaming the country following West Ham with little more than platform tickets and Persil Vouchers.

hah! platform tickets, remember those?
I had a ball last night.

Road closures at the top of Exedown? Bummer!

It said access only, we needed access.

Massive great trench in the road, exposed pipes, metal and plastic fencing that we needed to move out of the way before tip-toeing around the loose gravelly edge of the pit.
My Brompton is now fucked. Refuses point blank to shift into the smaller gear*. I did a thorough clean-up, and I've even had the adjustable wrenches out. Singlespeed for now, till I see what a mechanic has to say :/
*it had always been somewhat reluctant to move into the non-stock 15t, even though it's the same model of sprocket they use with their stock 16t

^ this would only be true if you lined up the decals with the valve.

The important thing is that he didn't chuck his empty CO2 cartridge into the forest. Yes, that's right. Infamously retro Skully eschews traditional pump work in favour of disposable lazy-arse shite.

. . . and no lavender! Technical question: CO2 is only lighter when used in sparkling water. Used in tubes it must make the bike heavier?
Just trying to work out how to attach jen's 705 to my bike sans rigging... Hmmmm
