I had a question on trains:
Looks like there is a 19:02 to Effingham Junction on the Surbiton line and a 19:09 on the Leatherhead line arriving 15 minutes apart with the 19:33 again on the Surbiton line arriving 15 minutes after the 19:09.
Problem is that I forget what my question was after getting excited by reading timetables.

No problem Chris, we can always talk about football.

I remember. Ride cap of 25. Is that to keep the ride moving at a decent pace with as few splits as possible or is it logistical (getting there)?

Bit of both

any more and becomes unmanageable. trains are only one factor in the cap.

...but I'd say there's a 99% chance you'll get a spot. Loads of people pull out on the day of the ride and you're only a few places down on the reserve list.

You had better change the "your" to "you're" before you-know-who gets here.

I hate making that mistake.

i'm not sure that people know how hard this ride is. anyone riding above 67gi won't be able to ride up whitedown. i'm a strong rider, and i'm struggling up whitedown at 65gi.

this is not an easy trnc, easier rides are to be had in the summer.
-
• #213
Don't listen to him, he's just trying to intimidate a couple of you so he can get in on the ride!
Whitedown is easy peasy. I've ridden up it in 53x11.

• #214
yep actually 18% for 200m plus another 100m plus the clow climb beforehand. no worries mate
-
• #215
especially at this time in the season, easy.

I did it on 69.6". I was a lot quicker on 39x19 (although that was the heavy winter bike, so 39x18 is probably ideal on the lighter geared bike).
Anyway, I don't do hills now. I merely tolerate them.

yep i said above 67.... i don't do hills now. i just exploit the chance to ride them

I propose that we don't stop and regroup at the top of Leith Hill, but instead plunge into the abyss on the other side, and tackle Whitedown before fully recovering. I'm sick of this happy-go-lucky approach to Tuesday nights. I'm 38 this year. I don't have many fast(ish) years left.

i love hills. all of the people on here, that love them, love then for different reasons but all have a similar understanding of the love.
-
• #220
yes i agree, an idea for tnrc elite. fuck waiting. the route today was not a trnc route, unless you are elite. then you couldn make it. if you are not serious no train home. tough love

Gradient ≠ expedient. Give me gentle rolling roads at ~25mph any day.
-
• #222
ahhh... we have to gear up to kick your arse... i've been gearing down, wil make a change!
-
• #223
Tuesdays are strictly gentle recovery rides for me, after ripping my legs off on Sundays.
-
• #224
I refuse to wait for anyone.

This is a social ride, FFS.
