• It's 'cochons', Piggy. :)

Indeed, but it's pronounced 'couchons' and in the spirit of the forum I chose to spell it the phonetically correct way.

  • Everyone:
I think people will need to be aware that all getting same train home won't be possible, so hang out in Cambridge fir an hour or two if you're not in a rush to back in the smoke, so we can return in small bunches of five or ten. Last Friday we had no problems with trains but there may be a lot of people trying to get to London on a Sunday PM.

Seem to be about 4 an hour on sunday evening so should be no problems there. I just had a nightmare vision of engineering works and having to ride pissed & knackered back to town. But it's all good :)

  • There are four trains each hour from Cambridge to King's Cross on Sunday but none to Liverpool Street so there will be more passengers than usual. Each opening (two per carriage) will take a couple of bikes with no blocking of the way for other users. There are usually four carriages per train. Two of the trains are none-stop so once the bikes are in and the train moves you can relax. On the stoppers you may have to hop up and down a bit as not all platforms are on the same side - just keep an eye open as you approach the station.

  • I think that I'm up for this if some kind soul is able to offer a couch for Sat night?

  • Yeah - why not :)

  • Skully - been offline all day. PM'd.

    Trains:
There are fast (non-stop) trains take about 50min, semi-fast about an hour, and then slow stopping. There is no point getting the slow stopping as they get into london after the next available faster train. If you want to get out at Finsbury Park get a semi-fast.

I'll ask at the station tomorrow how long the non-stop sunday service is, but assuming it's the shortest train it's 4 cars = 8 door zones = maxed out at 32 bikes. Yes there will be other people with bikes going down to london as well as people with suitcases, but we should be able to get a fair few bikes on each train, I would have thought 10 would be fine. Stopping trains I would only put 2 bikes per door zone - they all open to the left apart from Stevenage, so not too much getting up and down again.

1 fast train an hour (20 past) and 1 semi-fast (28 past) all afternoon, with an additional fast train at 18.45.

    In Cambridge:

The ride finishes at the mill pond. There is lots of green space and sometimes a few cows lurking. Perfect for tramp beers if the weather is good. The nearest booze outlet I can think of is on Kings Parade and open til 8pm, but it's a wine place, not sure if it does beers. A round of Pimms might be in order. Otherwise there's a regular offie and a co-op on Regent St/ Hills Rd which is not too far away.

For wet weather, the Mill, the Granta and the Anchor are all within spitting distance of the mill, I can't really recommend one over the other as I've always favoured the grassier option, but I think they are all fine. Fairly big and tolerant. The Granta has an outdoor bit, not sure how they would deal with dozens of bikes in it, but probably the best option if needed.

    howsat sound?

  • Ok. i skim read. I assume we are leaving PL polo courts at...

  • Yeah I never spotted a time either.
Meet and ready to rock at 8? Seems to be a favoured start time.
Also, I reserve the right to drop out, Lady Liz is returning from a couple of weeks on holiday and is intending to do the ride, however, if she's ultra jet-lagged I might just chill as well.
Also not had mothers day clearance yet.

  • Hoefla and Innanzi thanks a million.

Mill Pond it is, if weather's fine. Might try to find the indoor rink if it's rainy, polo migrates there on wet days so I'm told.

And I'm going to clarify the start time.

    8am.
    0800 hours
    8 in the morning.

We won't be hanging around so be ready to leave at 8. I imagine that late comers will find us gone within five or ten minutes of then. If you want to catch us, head for clapton roundabout and up Lea Bridge Road. It's straight on from there for quite a while.

  • So in otherwords, be there from 7:30/7:45 if you want to come?

  • Be ready to leave at 8. It's pretty unequivocal.

  • ^ good work skully.

    one more time?

    leaving at 0800.

  • can they ride single speed?

    What about compact?

  • No joining the queue in the bagel shop any later than 07.45?

  • compulsory walking from bagel shop to polo courts.

  • ok still missing the start point ... or I'm really clueless...

  • Sorted... will be there or asleep in bed...

  • can they ride single speed?

    What about compact?

    Dead to me.
    DTM
    To me, dead.
    Mort a moi.

  • Only teasing you Skully.

Serious question though, i cant use google view (fucking work pc says no) and ive read the thread. I know its the polo courts but only by name. What street is it on? Damos thing doesnt tell me a name and doesnt show me where.

  • Top end of Brick Lane, corner of Shacklewell St, north of Bethnal Green Road.

  • Oh look, I came on to put myself on the list but I'm already on it.
