  • are you doing bristol 100? still haven't decided whether to or not...

I'm in the same boat. You know what my bike is like, and I expect everyone else will be geared and fast.

I found the 60 miles to Brighton a bit of a struggle on Saturday so 100 to Bristol might be pushing it a bit - certainly if they're wanting to do it at a decent pace.

So, either I'll do Bristol and probably end up dropping back and finishing the route on my own (which I'm fine with) or I'll do the Brighton route again or something like that. Only reason I'm thinking of Brighton again is because the last climb beat me and I had to stop for a breather - I don't like that and I want another stab at it!

  • At least, I'm hoping it will be.

I'll be doing a ride on Saturday so by Sunday I'll probably be barely able to move and anything >10mph will kill me

Ah good, hopefully I'll be recovered by then :) At first I read >10kph and thought, even I can do more than 10 kph!

    Jog it :)

  • Hah that's like a more than a marathon, sure I'll just jog to Cambridge :P

fair play. if you do bristol i'll probably attempt it. we can slog it slowly if we lose the group

  • After doing the recce for both those rides, i can confirm that they are pretty much sans hills - shouldn't be too tough to get through both, i reckon. In fact, the Cambridge route is some kind of pancake-flat 10mph recovery ride delight with added beer stops.

    sold!

  • People have different views of what constitutes a hill - on Saturday I was finding it hard going on something I would laugh at if it was part of my commute.

But yeah, I see the Cambridge ride as probably doable regardless of how much I punish myself the day before.

This is all weather-permitting of course. The forecasts I've see are for rain during the week, clearing by the weekend but if it rains I'm flouncing faster than a very flouncy thing.

  • out! sorry skulls

yep! looking forward to both rides. as long as i can sweet talk my lovely mother...

  • Slow sounds good - planning on going to HH again next sat and if I'm as knackered afterwards as I was this week a nice recovery ride sounds perfect :)

  • I'm working-out

  • But not working out

  • Have decided not in for the ride - the thought of juggling the tandem and the train and all the permutations of what could go wrong just too much for my little brain...

However, me and the boy will most likely have a day out in Cambridge* (train ftw) and will meet you reprobates for a drink somewhere later on.

    • unless there's rain. then we won't.
  • Aww, sad I won't get to see the mighty tandem, Jenny! Hope to see you & son for a cheeky drink in Cambridge though.

  • modest
Sorry, you may have got the wrong day. I tried to get to CM last night but ended up missing it by abbout 10 minutes. Couldn't decide where it might have gone. Was it mental=good or mental=horrible?

Ahh I thought it may have been the day after. Shame I was really up for the ride. CM was mental good. It was my first time and I spoke to some people on the ride who'd been before and they said there were far more people than last time. There wasn't too many violent altercations along the way, none that I saw anyway and some legend had a sound system that created a nice party vibe, there were even coppers helping with the corking. T'was great fun.

Oh and we went to Trafalgar first then to Buckingham Palace and then Bank and Old Street (roughly).

Really looking forward to the 3rd. Hope the weather is nice.

  • out! sorry skulls

    NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

You had better have a real good reason for this.

    Waiting for the 52nd position.

Sorry, still intend on going although bike is being a little biatch. We can swap numbers if that makes you feel better?

  • Everyone:
I think people will need to be aware that all getting same train home won't be possible, so hang out in Cambridge fir an hour or two if you're not in a rush to back in the smoke, so we can return in small bunches of five or ten. Last Friday we had no problems with trains but there may be a lot of people trying to get to London on a Sunday PM.

    out! sorry skulls
Sorry to hear that J. You'll be missed mate. Sam and I were discussing you on the recce, I was saying how I'd like to see you man.

Kirth: easy peasy average speed. Like braker said: if ever there was a perfect fixed cross country ride, this is it.

Hoefla you decided what you're doing? Why not meet us at Roydon station if you're not doing the whole thing. Pm and we'll swap numbers. Also: Can you help us? I would really like an ACE place we can gather (like the prettiest bit of piece, how about that area by the river just near the piece where Strawberry fair is at) for tramp beers* and an ACE place to buy said tramp beers: like Cambridge's best offy.

*weather permitting, OR a roomy pub with tolerant staff and good locking/bike pile spot.
