Skully's done this before. Come along everybody, it's a social ride, etc. Then he puts the hammer down as soon as you're all in the middle of pissing nowhere, after giving everyone 'the look', showering the hedgerows with all the empty gel sachets that spill out the pocket of his custom-made tweed skinsuit.

Must resist urge to make childish joke...
Seriously though, this is sensible advice. I will be enhancing my mighty fitness with snickers bars and beer.
Joke involving Plantain...
I (genuinely) carry some spirits on rides in a hipsterflask. Was useful recently to calm someone who'd just cracked a rib slipping on ice. Now my justification for basically being a pisshead. I will probably feel like beer at the end.

I will probably feel like a beer every 20 minutes or so

The new Skully-endorsed range of beer gels from SIS is due out soon. Plus the stout recovery mix.

Can I just add my voice to the chorus that is stressing this isn't a race or a training ride it's a leisurely roll in the countryside. For those who haven't done a long ride 25+ miles before there's no point in stressing about pace or fitness as you won't know how good or bad you'll feel until you're actually turning the pedals on the day. Come out enjoy the ride, safe in the knowledge that no one is left behind and hopefully by the end of this summer if not sooner you'll be organising your own long rides and quieting the fears of others new to the experience.

can I just ask - what's the big deal about it being mother's day? It's only an old tradition kept going by the greeting cards industry.
-
• #266
some people's mothers
are bigger than other people's mothersactually want to see their offspring on mothers' day, regardless of it being a Clintons 'tradition', they think it's a nice idea... -

some people's mothers
are bigger than other people's mothersactually want to see their offspring on mothers' day, regardless of it being a Clintons 'tradition', they think it's a nice idea...Well, it does make a change from them not wanting to see their offspring on any other day. Right? Right? ;)

I'm not that bothered about it regarding my own mother, but I'll take the opportunity to show thanks to my wife for what she went through in becoming the mother of my child.

And the less said about that particular act on a public forum the better? :)

[ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mothering_Sunday[/ame]not to be confused with Mother's day.
-
• #271
In the UK it is considered synonymous with Mother's Day
Doesn't this mean it legitimately can be confused with Mother's Day? -
• #272
By being confuse I meant: Mother's day (Hallmark version) is destroying Mothering Sunday/Mother's Day (christian apppropriated pagan version).
-
• #273
Hallmark/Christian/Pagan, I fail to see any significant difference.

I'm always disappointed, when visiting a particular high street greeting card vendor, that I'm not welcomed into the store by intergalactic funk operatives.
Mothers' Day prevails. I won't be in your vicinity. Going to have a train/walking/countryside/pub day with wife & son instead*.
*might squeeze some vicious interval training in between 7am & 8am. There are standards to uphold.
