yeah, it's not really a horror just agood filum.
the first one is better IMHO -

I hate it when other people do this but: LTROI book>movie>remake, massively, I switched the movie off.
Of course my gf has another opinion: Swedish book>translation>movie>remake.

I've just bought Let The Right One In.
Just waiting for the right time to watch it. (beer, crisps, lights off, wife gone to bed, etc)
The original Swedish version I hope? A pretty decent atmospheric horror that has similarities to the Omen in parts I thought.

30 days of night wasn't too bad - kinda reminded me of John Carpenters The Thing in places
Has anyone seen the Mark Gattis series on BBC 4 on Horror? Worth checking on iPlayer
-
• #82
Yeah, it's pretty good and Gattis is very knowledgeable on the subject. Makes a change seeing someone take Hammer and Amicus films seriously.
-
• #83
worth a looksee

That series was brilliant, Eightball. I'm a great admirer of Gattis.
I'll ask the wife if she fancies a bit of horror - you never know!
I have heard that the re-make was actually a Hammer production, and it's actually supposed to be pretty good. I'll watch the one Ive got (the original) then I'll sample the new one, just because it's Hammer. I'll let you know!

It certainly owes a lot to the Thing. I really rated 30 Days of Night. It's a punchy, consise, taught little number and the acting / script is straight faced enough to stop the genre play from becoming unoriginal and pastiche.
While we're in that territory (albeit a little less grown up) I thought the remake of the Crazies was good fun.

I liked http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Objective.
More weird than horror, but felt fresh.
And Cthulhu is the best Lovecraft film I've seen. The atmosphere is superb. Even Tori Spelling is good in it. (I know that is hard to believe.)

Impossible to believe, and whilst I don't take too much notice of IMDB ratings, 4.6 is very low. The best Lovecraft film by far is

Well, yes. The Mythoscope one is eldritchly good.
I ordered two hoodies from H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society and pestered the guy about the upcoming Whisperer in Darkness. That was more than a year ago when it was still far from finished. But now it seems it will soon be ready!
Still, regarding the 2007 Cthulhu: even S.T. Joshi thinks it is the best Lovecraft filmatization ever!

Seeing Bob Mitchum lurching at the screen threatening to 'twist your little arm off' is enough to make an adult crap themselves, never mind a nipper.
amazing film. I can't imagine the american re-make is anywhere near as good.
