Plenty of holes in the downtube though.

Odd isn't it? is it going to be a regular feature on CX bicycle to have MTB mudguard mount?
-
• #654
Reynolds 853 but the Fugio appear to be more of a race-ready frame (no mount for mudguard and rack).
ooh nice, didnt realise genesis used 853. far too posh for me.
-

853 is posh, but carbon is common people's material of choice?
what the hell?

I almost bought a CC when my CdF got stolen, but the deal on the Boardman was just too good. I still fancy one, and may still get one for SS duties if finances allow.
don't blame you, the Boardman's CX is a great bike, but I'm leaning toward the CdF (the Sora gruppo one) as I get a good trade price on it.

Just been eyeing a Croix De Fer after getting my bike stolen.
I've got to ask Ed, how was it locked?
-
• #658
Fahgettiaboutit lock, unfortunately, they took the Sheffield stand with them*.
*not really, but a large chunk of it were missing.
-
• #659
Seriously tempted by the Genesis CdF (Reynolds 520 Sora version of the 725 Tiagra) after realising how much it cost under trade, reckon I'll try it out tomorrow and see what's what.

they were probably just after your rich cache of spacers and got disturbed so took the whole bike

Actually, I slammed that stem, the only one with stack of space is the tourer, that's all.

So.......
Say you've destroyed your CX frame. What would be the cheapest disc brake compatible replacement?
I instantly thought PX Uncle John but I cant find the fork for it.

Tweeks have CdF frames for £280.

£320 with fork

I'm currently thinking for the £500 it will cost to fix it. I can buy a rigid front end, and some fast rolling tyres for the fat bike.
Making it the new utility bike.
I have a SS 29er for light off-roading, plus the fatbike in hardtail form for more challenging trails.
I have a fixie for short rides, and a roadie for longer road riding. Was nice having a CX bike though. The swiss army knifes of bikes. Piss.

What happened to it?
-
• #668
A series of failiures, closely followed by cheap fixes, and rushed meching.
Then last night the kiddie trailer pulled the rear wheel out of the drop-outs. The wheel ate the rear mech, and the rear mech ate the hanger. After several spokes were served as starter. The BB is already seized, as ae the cable adjusters and brake mounts.
The £90 frame is not worth fixing.

At least the kids were'nt in the trailer.....

Cotic RoadRat frame & fork - £250. Not a dedicated crosser frame but it doesn't sound like you need one...

Nice article.
It looks like a good bike and a clever CampagmanoRAM drivetrain.

I have 9speed bar end shifters, and Vee brake dropbar levers. These are kinda pricey for what they are. But once you have them. You can pick up, and mix, all sorts of bargins.
I definitely prefer using MTB rear mechs.
