  • Consensus is pretty good I think, though they're a bit porky for carbon. I'd personally rather have a really good alu frame than a naff carbon one.

  • When you say porky, i assume you mean like, bad quality carbon?

  • porky=heavy

  • Oh i see, may bad, that's sort of obvious... :S thank you nonetheless!

  • 1200g is hardly porky, it's a CX bike ffs.

  • S'alright. It probably has another 100g of paint on it now so it's only a few 100gs off a quality alu frame (TCX for example). However the fork is a boat anchor.

  • really want one of these

  • Spyres have been recalled by TRP

  • Yip. Annoying as I've just replaced the stock pads in all four we own.

Ill take em out and hope the replacements come with new pads.

  • Does anyone know of a decent drop bar that has both decent ergonomicy bits and still has a wide central round bit so I can put cross top levers on?

  • Pro Vibe 7 S?

  • Anybody know anything about that new B twin cross thingy that got good reviews in cycling plus , cos on the face of it looks really good value .

  • It's probably a good value if slightly dull looking CX bike if its anything like their previous efforts. Get down to decathlon and take a look?

  • The catch is that the bicycle is likely to be poorly put together, so if you're genuinely interested in it, put an extra £30 on top to get it PDI at a reputable LBS.

  • Not sure if I can bring myself to buy from decathlon , and yes I know its just the snob factor ie boardman /halfords .
One of my mates has two bike shops in Oxfordshire and has recently taken on Lapierre so is getting me one of their alloy 105 equipped cross to try , with a deal that should come in under a grand .

  • Deposit down for a Geekhouse Mudville with Yo Marty fork. Hopefully the build should be done by next cross season. I will probably get a carbon fork for racing, but wanted the steel fork as well.

  • Woah.

    Fucking ace!

    under 1k?! ;p

  • Pro Vibe 7 S?

    Looks good, cheers

  • ^^ frame and fork will be a bit over. Thinking of taking a trip to Boston in conjunction with a holiday to pick it up, as a way round import duty and VAT. Not sure if that works though.

  • Sell one of your bike frames to someone in Boston, take it out built up in a case, swap the frames, hand over the old one.

    No one will ever know.

  • Or just take an empty case over...
Its a very cool little warehouse/workshop where they're based.

  • Planning on going 1x10 as I never shift on the front when racing and the rest of the time the bikes a town bike, so I don't need any big gears.

An XT rear mech, 38t chainring and a 11-30t cassette should provide almost the same range as I currently have with 34/44t chainrings and a 11-28t cassette, though obviously with bigger jumps but I think I can deal with that.

I'd like to try out these wide narrow chainrings but unfortunately I am a Shimano devotee and all their clutch rear mechs are not compatible with STI shifters. Therefore I am left with chain retention options of either a Pauls Chain Keeper (light and simple but will probably clog and feed the chain with mud in much the same way as a front derailleur) or dog fang chain catcher and chain guard (cheaper and heavier but perhaps better in mud?). I'm leaning towards the latter.

  • You shouldn't have much problem if you went for a singlespeed chainring without ramp and pin (which cause chain to derailed without a derailleur.
