Imagine my System Six with mudguards and a rack.
Does that mental image look like that of a happy bike?
-
• #2903
I should get Matt to braze some bottle bosses and eyelets on the talbot.
And add a seat stay bridge. Radz!

Can't see any harm using a decent CX bike for commuting.
The Giant is a bit of a shocker but I agree with ed on this. Its a cross race bike but so is the caadx disc that loads of people commute on, even with the cable routed along the top tube for shouldering making it easier to rip your sack off while commuting. What we need is more disc road bikes, or dare I say it, drop bar nodder hybrids

There have been "commuter" road bike, such as Ridgeback, Saracen, Kona to name but a few, but people often get turned off by them and went for the real deal. .
Dammit is one of the lucky chap whom can have his cake and eat it by incorporating the SystemSix geometry to his new Oaks with a few change, a lots of people can't really afford this luxury and rode their SystemSix with mudguard and rack in the winter.

Caadx disc is not a race bike. Although it can be raced and wouldn't slow you down...

Much like the Specialized Allez C2?

what's a reasonably cheap 135mm spaced wheelset for cyclocross use? clincher.

Disc?

Nup

I don't think there's any 700c 135 spaced CX non-disc wheelset apart from the hybrid/touring one (like the Deore/A319).
-
• #2912
Shame, might be better changing the axle and respacing my fixed touring wheels then
-
• #2913
Why would you want 135mm?
-
• #2914
Because my sscx is 135mm spaced, and you mentioned the caadx can easily fit a 135mm wheel.
I could then have one set of 'mud' wheels which could be used on both bikes. -
• #2915
Howard, are you sure it's feasible to put a 135mm hubs on the 130mm spacing of the CAADX?
-
• #2916
Ah I see.
Yep I used 135mm hubs most of the time. I would be wary if its a struggle to get them in but I suspect the spacing of laner's frame (was my frame) is around 133 anyway.
-
• #2917
So a 130mm hubs would be sufficient then?
-
• #2918
He wants a wheel that will fit both his SSCX(135) and CX(130ish).
Some 135 spaced frames won't take a 130mm spaced axle.
The wife's kinesis being a good example.
But both will take a 135.

• #2919
Alright I'm a little confused, did you said the Felt he brought was your, which is more like 133mm?
-
• #2920
Nope, i bought the CAADX (which is 130/32.5ish) from howard, the felt was from ebay.

Geekhouse Mudville or Tonic Fabrication Magnum for a CX bike / light tourer?
-
• #2923
For that money get Matt to build you a talbot custom.

Have you got a link to a photo of yours? Why is Talbot better than the others?
Reminds me of the pretty cx bike thread on cyclechat where all the fluro nodders post their ruined Boardmans.
