  • Shimano CX-75, talk to me people.

    (Spyre does look good)

  • I hate to says it but is that's the right size for you?

    Yup its a 62cm frame!!

    Burton- Shimano CX-75 brakes?

    Indeed, very nice braking!!

  • As a rule of thumb: yes. Idea being to give you a bit more of an upright stance and increase standover, but individual frame designs will ultimately affect the sizing choice.

But it struck me odd to have that much post and a long, upwards pointing stem. It looks like the bike has been adjusted to its limit to give a suitable position, which doesn't really leave much room for tweaking.

But hey could be a trick of the light or the fact that I just can't get excited about a Cube, sorry.

The stem is that way for general commute (8 degree), I always find it hard to find bikes for the right size, but was told before purchasing this one by another LBS to go for a 58cm frame!!

  • The HR/RD looks like a neater version of the Hope V-twin, but with a much longer cable run. I'm failing to get excited about this.

Dont get me wrong, its great news for those wanting mid-range groupsets, and decent disc brakes. Or even to retro fit them to there disc braked cx. In fact I'd probably buy them myself. But for those buying the top end stuff from new (I'm looking at you Dammit). Losing the cables completely, and having hydraulic levers seems far better.

There are inherent disadvantages to both hydraulics and cables. Spyre will pressumbly have both.

I think you could have gotten the same contact triangle out of a frame a size bigger. Which would have looked far better in photos, as the stem would have been slammed.

    Asthetic bike fit >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • He couldn't, that's the biggest frame Cube make.

There are bigger frame he could've gone for, like the Kona Jake for example (61.5cm TT + 200mm HT)

Or even the Pinnacle Arkrose that have a full 30mm longer headtube than the Cube (210mm) with the same top tube (58cm).

    #astheticbikefit

  • Thats correct the 62cm is the largest!

My langster and Stumpy were the same...

  • But then what do I know, I work for Evans, people are better off getting bike fit advice from B&Q.

  • He couldn't, that's the biggest frame Cube make.

I wasnt advising he got a bigger frame. Merely that it would look more apeasing in photos. If I was inbetween for a CX frame I would have gone for the size down myself.

  • I had problems trying to get a bike that was in stock that I liked and I could source locally

  • I had problems trying to get a bike that was in stock also!

If thats the highest you're likely to set your bars. I cant see a problem.

I bet next time you ride it, you realise all this doubt mongering is bullshit, and that you love it.

  • As far as I am concerned I love the ride, feels comfy and nimble. Just trying to get over the weight compared to the Langster is the hardest part! ;o)

And I can still win the commute races in the morning! ;o)

I think you've confused the Spyre with the HY/RD. The Spyre is a cable operated brake made interesting because it doesn't have a static piston.

FWIW I share your doubts on hybrid systems.

    Feck you're right.

    I'll do some editing.

The Spyre must be the one, like the IRD Dualbangers. Makes a lot of sense on paper. But they died out pretty quickly. Hopefull this time more care will be taken.

  • Indeed, very nice braking!!

Do the pads drag on the rotors at all?

  • I thought the front one did at first but it appears not.

  • Neil you really got to have a go on my Genesis.

  • what CX tyre for the Hell of the North next weekend?

should i go for the Continental Cyclo X King, and in which case the 32 mm black chilli or 35 mm standard rubber one?

am looking for a tyre that will run well on the road and give grip on muddy bits too

  • ^^well expensive! I've gone for schwalbe cx pros for 11.99 on PLanet x. Then again I won't be using them on the road really...

  • am looking for a tyre that will run well on the road and give grip on muddy bits too

CX tyre tread & compound is largely irrelevant - pressure determines grip. Unless you are prepared to run them at 40psi or less I'd get used to the idea of not having a whole lot more grip than those on normal road tyres.

If you want to borrow a pair of clinchers you are welcome - I have some cross kings, sammy slicks and CX Speed, the later being my choice for HOTN a few years ago, and were fine.

  • Starting negotiations footwork on CX bike.

Anyone ever got a bike shipped from the US?

  • Import duty - but otherwise should be fine if packed and insured properly.

  • Civilian?
