I dunno where now, that I'd read the Civilian's forks were made by ENVE.
I even commented on that with Tenderloin, when we met at Oceano's. -

These raleigh sscxwc ones i'm sure they are
(Also very tempting, although being a limited edition/production..
...and not disc brakes, but i'm cool with that)

Are you still talking about building an SSCX?

you people don't seriously believe the weight claims for the Civilian frame?
its 4130, the Condor steel race frame is 1.8kg so I bet the Civilian is over 2kg + a chinese fork at least over 600-700g. -

I've been waiting for some decent heavy rain to finally make my mind up regarding a disc equipped bike, especially after riding the road bike with full 6700 Ultegra last weekend when I did a few accidental lock-ups and stoppies. Rained today and the new TRP EuroX alloys worked fine. Aaaaaargghhh.
Still, in 3 weeks I shall be in the land of Cyclocross and will see what they have for a decent price as the Euro isn't too bad at present (80p)
I see Hellfrauds have raised the price of the CX to £949.99 now. Still good value but I reckon its' days are numbered as they only list 3 sizes now.
That price, even with 10% from British Cycling, puts it out of the equation when I can get a Merida Disc 4 for £850.00 -

Nuknow. the fork is not enve. it's bevato.

Makes sense as the forks pictured dont even look that similar to me other than they are both discbrakes.

its 4130, the Condor steel race frame is 1.8kg so I bet the Civilian is over 2kg + a chinese fork at least over 600-700g.Even more dubious as disc-equipped frame tend to be heavier, I'm seriously skeptical at the claim weight of the frame as it's only 300g heavier than a Dolan Seta.

I would imagine its the smallest frame stripped bare, does sound a little Italian however.

The Alu Cinelli MASH SSCX frame weight 1550g with fork weight of 440g.
I'll eat my hat if that Civilian is actually lighter.

so after waiting forever for my C2W voucher to turn up it's finally here.
I was ready to go into Evans and get a 2012 CAADX 105 but within the past 2 days they have sold out.
so now i'm looking at this years dales.
either the CAADX sora for 800, leaving my 200 to get some pedals and some other bits for it.
or the CAADX tiagra for 950, leaving me 50 quid to get some pedals.
first of all, am i going to notice the difference between the 2 in standard form? i'm not going to be racing it, just using it as a winter commutercross machine, and could I get the sora riding nicer by spending the extra money i'd be saving on it?
are there any other bikes i should be looking at? preferably from evans as all the other bike shops round here will just try and sell me a dawes hybrid.

Evans has a fair selection of bargain cross rigs this year. Have a go on the Norco, Jamis, Genesis etc. Try both of the 'dales. Pick the one you like the most. £200 doesn't leave you much wiggle room for upgrades but we did get a pair of Fulcrum 5s for £130 shipped recently so a wheel upgrade isn't out of the question.

dry, Tiagra would be a much better choice than the Sora, with the Tiagra, you can easily upgrade to 105 as they're both 10 speed nowadays.
obviously biased but I do like the Genesis CdF are they're excellent bicycle for the money and damn comfty (if you're just using it as a winter commuter).
I also recommended the Pinnacle Arkose Two, as the equipment is very decent for the money, the Norco Threshold A2 is also worth looking at.
Test ride as much as you can, and choose the one you like the best in term of handling and comfort, but for commuting, disc brakes is defintely worth going for.

cheers for the advice guys. I think i'm struggling to pick due to having no experience with gears/brakes or with the majority of the brands i seem to be looking at.
i'll get myself in there tomorrow and test a few bikes out.

• #1771
tender, are you planning on importing frame sets or whole bikes only?
-
• #1772
Not sure - currently specced as whole bikes.
I'm after a whole bike.Just trying to work out how I'd personally go about such an undertaking, not having done this sort of thing before!
-
• #1773
depending on the price i would buy the french-flag complete one
-

So Tyson is willing to put an order together for us. It would need to be enough to make it worth his while - I had suggested 10 bikes - but there may be scope on just the frame.
A list and or questions that you want asked plz.
