cheers for the offer dude but unless you are willing to accept my C2W voucher i don't think its possible. Really struggling to pick something out.

I just missed our CTW scheme as I was on holiday when they started the new one, bastids.
Wish I had done it 2 years ago when it was worth it.
Try the Merida CX4 Disc, that looks (and feels) really nice when I saw it in my local shop.
Forgot to say, the Genesis bike had mini V's fitted and the rider says they are excellent. He spins out at 21-22mph as he has the single speed set up for the large hill on his way in/home form Portsmouth. He did have fixed gearing but gave it up as you can freewheel at 35mph downhill.
Can't see the point myself, just get a bike with gears. Good luck.I'm off to Belgium next month, the home of CX and go past 3 decent shops that I know of, one is a Ridley stockist. So we'll see what they have.
A shame Decathlon have dropped their CX bike, it's a bargain, but seems to only be available in France now for €899.95, which is still a bargain with 105 etc.

Lots of options around the £1000 mark - what's the problem?
Assuming you are looking at the £1k mark from the price of that Gen.

This seems a pretty good price for someone looking for one.
I'm kinda tempted. Loved my crosscheck

I think that is the problem to be honest, too much choice, especially with all next years bikes coming out. I've never had a geared bike or a bike with brakes, and never even sat on a CX bike. I have no idea what I should be looking for. I've got the full 1k but don't want to spend it on some overpriced heap.

Do you think you'll need gears?
I have a suspicion you'd find that genesis a bit of a lump. You can buy parts with CTW, right? How about a single speed (or fixed) Surly Crosscheck? Keep it lean.

I am very tempted by the idea of a single speed, light as possible cross bike.
The antithesis of my Boardman - as simple as I can get it.
-
• #1609
Me too. Given I spend most of my CX races in 36 / 18 it would make sense for me.
Love those Civilian frames Tenderloin linked to. Utter pron. Someone get me a BB30 version.

^ it's got shit wheels though. I'll never trust anything with Quando written on it again.
BTW Competitive Cyclist will ship one of those for $300. So I guess your looking at £800 after tax for the singlespeed.
Felt need to bring their Breed over.

I just want the frame - I don't need the wheels.
My CAADX came with Quando hubs. They seemed to work. I sold the wheels on. What happened to yours?
Oh, and the crank on that Civ is shit too.

Mine were 29er wheels. The rear hub seemed to have very few pickup points which was super frustrating. They needed rebuilding after the 1st time they gut submerged in mud/water. They were unsealed so quickly became junk.
They came on a cheap OTP so I never expected much.

technically no, I do the ride currently fixed but it is sometimes a mission across the chilterns.
has to be a complete bike apparently. been thinking about getting something like a CAADX 6 for 800 from evans and converting it to single speed.

What r u gonna use it for? Ive had ss cross that was pretty light but a rear der dont weight much and its alot easier to find light wheels for gears than ss or fixed. So the weight isent an issue since u still need brakes n levers regardless. 1x10 is deffinetly worth it imo but i never cared much for no gears..

Just winter commuting. 30 miles each way. Maybe 1x10 is the best bet.

No shit Miss Marple.

I'm going 1 * 10... but that's for racing. Seems a bit odd for just getting about. Not sure what the advantage is in a commuting context.

I reckon when you're used to riding a fixed wheel bicycle, 1x10 seemed like a lots.
I never drop down to the small ring of the compact crankset with the 9 speed 12-32 cassette on the back in cities, ditto on the old 8 speeds and 6 speeds bicycle.

I was looking at Bjorns selection of titanium cross bikes with a very large amount of envy earlier.
I'd love to take a magic wand and clone my SystemSix, but with canti's, and clearance for 35c tyres+mud.

In layman's term, a Cannondale SuperX then.

^ My eyes! eughh. Last years Super looked quite good. That one... bluegh

You can have my CX9 for £700.00 (ish)
Close enough.

Mmmm, I love Cannondales in Liquigas colours, always have, I don't care if they're not "the best" in road or CX. Shame Cannondale are dropping sponsorship next year.
Rode the CX9 in the rain this morning and although not hammering down (drizzle) there was plenty of standing water and the brakes seem a lot better now I have EuroX's fitted. No instantaneous initial bite, but once the water is cleared they are very powerful and modulation is still good.
So still undecided upon a new disc equipped model............................................

That's the thing about discs- they do the same thing, every time.
Dry. You can have my CX9 for £700.00 (ish)
A bloke at work has one of those Day One doofahs. Left me for dead when we got to a hill
