They make pretty indentations in skulls too...

I've been looking at trying to find an IR camera, which is supposed to be much better with number plates.
Ideally, I'd like it to have both IR and normal cameras in one package, with a GPS module that prints location and time onto the bottom of both cameras.
Maybe I need to try and prototype something, but the raspi compute boards (which I'd need to get two cameras mounted) are currently outside my price bracket for what is in essence a hobby project.

In answer to your last question, an average commuter in London cycling the most common 260 working days a year for half an hour between 8:15 and 8:45 and 5:15 to 5:45 (most common journey times) got wet from rain ten times in 2013 (as reported somewhere on here via a tlf poster).
As for focusing on rain, @Velocio, don't most small cameras just have a massive field of focus that starts about six foot from the lense (my muvi ripoff did), so unlike the phone example they aren't trying to focus on the nearest lot thing?

After much review reading and video watching i'm getting close to the idea of purchasing a Contour Roam 3 (really don't fancy Go-Pro bulk).
My only concern is night time quality/exposure for city riding. Does anyone have any experience of these and could advise?
Thanks

The Best Action Camera For Every Need
Pretty decent review & quick guide for all the cameras out there
I'm using a contour roam 2 - for a commute-cam, at the price point, it does all it needs to. It's not great in low-light.
On the back, I've a Fly6 - which is surprisingly good in all conditions.

I bought a cheap SJ4000 off ebay and received it today. Seems pretty well made etc.
Anyone got suggestions for some (preferably free) video editing software? Using iMovie but wonder if there's anything else out there?

Do let us know how you get on with that camera. I'd definitely pick one up if it's anywhere near the go pro hero

Here's a quick clip thrown together from today's commute.

Cool thanks man. Seems like a really decent quality for such low cost

My 'sj4000' has lasted all of 3 days.
It performed fine last few days when I used it on my commute on both bicycle and motorbike but today it's intermittently turning itself off, sometimes saving the recording it was in the middle of, sometimes not.
Also I've noticed a few things (HDR mode, Cyclic Recording mode) missing from my menus so that's why 'sj4000' is in quotes, I think my camera is not a genuine sj4000. Perhaps reflected by the price I got it for...

@Clockwise does the UI on your SJCAM M10 look like the images below and if so do you know who/where you got it?
I'm going to return this 'SJ4000' for a refund and replace it with an M10 but want to make sure I don't get another fake. The screens and menus on the camera I'm returning look nothing like those pictured above.
Or anyone else that has an SJ4000 or M10 and UI looks as above, where'd you get yours?
Basically, looking for a recommendation of a decent seller.

Nice one, cheers.
Edit: Ordered, with 10% off for downloading the app too!

Yeah I ordered a couple for the camera I've sent back, a chest mount and a bsr mount and ali knobs with a wrench. I read on some forum about roughing up the mating faces of the mounts with sandpaper to reduce slipping.

Do you have a recommended seller for them/these?
-
• #371
Do any of these cameras loop, ie. just keep recording the last x minutes of cycling?
-
• #372
The genuine SJ4000 should ( I think) have a 'Cyclic recording' function that would fit the bill.

I'm about to start looking for a second hand go pro as my iPhone is too unreliable to take touring and the only smart phones I can borrow have shit cameras.
Any hints or tips? I know the new ones have amazing quality and uber wide angle, etc. But is there a particular era that should be avoided? Or will the all do the job? (the job being to replace a small point and shoot).
Cheers

I found this hero 3 white slim edition for
It should do the trick right? Then I just need to get or make sure that I have a handle bar mount that will fit with a bar bag, or a helmet strap.

About to pull the trigger on that Go Pro...
... Any suggestions on a better one for the money?
Cheers
Lights should be bar height or below to get better shadow on obstacles, cameras should be head mounted so they show what you were looking at, be it the road ahead or ladies/mens bottoms.
