  • It's only lack of income that stopped me for taking it :-(

  • i nearly bought a pomp, for a serious winter bike, i would have gone down these lines:

My every day beater with prolonged SKS fenders, internal wiring and a secured brooks saddle:

  • Lovely autumnal photos :) Can I ask who manufactured the chainring?

  • not sure, i thought it was the sturmy archer one:

but on closer inspection it isnt

  • It is a pretty tidy design. Thinking that it would reduce the amount of oil that seems to be magnetically drawn to my jeans....

  • another option could be the Alfine cranks

and i think sram do single crankset with a bashguard

    Edit.
    they do yes

  • Chainrings with integrated guards are also available in men's sizes

  • Anyone using Tektro RL520s or similar drop levers with V brakes?

    Any opinions on them?

  • They work.

Not sure what else to add to that, other than that it work exactly as it intended to (have them on the tourer).

  • Awesome. All I need to know.

Can't be arsed with cantis/mini Vs again and like the power of Vs.

  • £379.99 for small or medium full builds. So tempting, but must resist as we already have a houseful of bikes

  • Now I have read some poor reviews of the full build online on message boards but can't vouch myself.

That's old though so they could have improved. Most of the components are decent so it should be a decent build.

  • ^I wouldn't base my decision on that review, seems a bit odd (stem broke?). I'd always expect to have to check and tighten everything on a mail order bike, and somehow suspect that's the reviewers problem. I do agree on cantis though. I'd ask them to put Vs on instead. I got the frameset alone, but mine now looks like an on-one build because seems to make sense.

  • It's a 4 year old review, so I expect they've changed a good few things since that. I'd expect to have to replace a few of the stock parts as it will have been built to a budget, but his seems to have been a particularly unlucky build.

  • Yeah, I do agree. Is it just me or can you not see the components on that On-One build on the website?

  • Stem failure is the stuff of nightmares but everything at fault in that review could be down to bad setup or it being badly built up. There isn't enough detail to discount that.

The issue with the mudguard clearance make you wonder whether he just needed another link in his chain, and therefore might not be the most sensible person. He is a bit crashy.

  • I think the clearances on the pomp used to be a bit narrower. The site says:

**Now **featuring longer 420mm chainstays to fit 35mm CX tyres

    (my emphasis)

  • I think they could fit all the slick 32s on every size frame. There is something odd going on if 25s and guards weren't fitting.

  • I fit 35s (I think, at least 32s but I'm almost certain 35s) plus SKS Chromoplastic guards in my pomp fine.

    and large.

  • may end up being expensive when you need to buy a proper seatpost to replace those BMX-style one.

  • come on ed... how much are the generic thomson style ones about £12?

  • why does the seatpost need replacing? On one usually put a twelfty on, which is perfectly decent and suits the frame geo.
