Sorry. I wanted to do the same to get a 16t freewheel. The chain size isn't important. A single speed chain will work on all of the wi free wheels, but the cogs are only interchangeable with cogs with the same colour lock rings.

So I'm going to weld a derailleur hanger onto a pompino, and cold-set the rear end to 130mm, any reason this shouldn't work?

There are stories of the chainstays cracking on older pomps. However I had mine coldest to 135 without any issues to date.
