I'm not sure my original frame-to-component cost-ratio really holds up under scrutiny. I mean this thread is proof you can make great bikes with a basic if cleverly designed frame...and anyway it's more that expensive components intimidate me due to a heady mixture of desirability and unobtainium.

edit fuck this shit why is there always a new page and there's no way of knowing

I'm going to be buying disc brakes for a pompetamine. I think they cost more than the frame.
The brakes on my Pompetamine cost more than the frameset, and were bought about a decade earlier.

Campag Deltas on a pomp?
I said a decade, not quarter of a century. And my Deltas only cost £120.

I'd consider buying the CR720s if you decide you want to part with them

Need parts.... struggling to make it a sub £250 build with a front disc though...

Any +195cm XL-riders in here? How does the frame feel?
-
• #5162
Hey @sgt_spokes turns out I'm keeping the CR720 so if you're interested in the CX50s let me know. FYI the colour of the CX50 IRL is much closer to Ultegra Grey than Sora Silver.

So feeling my seat tube today it feels like it is bigger at the top 6 inches. Could it be flared or is it normal for them to be like this? The seat post should have been the right size and originally went in alright.
Bit confused.

mine too
externally butted tube -

So that's normal then :)

im 6'5" - it feels pretty good generally, nice and comfortable - i've done a few hours on it once, but mostly for 30minute commutes.
You just look a little bit silly on it is all, but that comes with the territory.

Right ok I swear this will be my last spam post in this thread.
The Alfine cranks say they give 42.7mm chainline, but the Surly ultra new hubs say they give a chainline of 42.5mm. Is it necessary to implement some kind of spacer jiggery-pokery to eliminate the 2mm difference? The BB (Tiagra external) length is 68mm so I don't think I can reduce it by a smaller BB...

0.2mm difference...

Thanks English degree.

They'll have been quoted without specifying the chainring thickness, sprocket thickness or sprocket offset (base of threads to teeth).
You're still going to have to measure it.
For differences of less than 1mm your only realistic option is spacers between the chainring and spider.

For differences less than 1mm, the main option is just to ignore it. Even bushed ⅛" chains will run perfectly happily with <1mm misalignment over the 400mm or so between the two axes.

Seriously you think less than 1mm out on the chainline is really worth fixing?
I've got a convertion that's about 7mm off and it doesn't throw it's chain?!
Oh and the polo bike is way off in one of the gears...
Both bikes have singlespeed 3/32 chains.
