Worth considering what rims you have too.
I tried a normal V on mine but found it didn't work too well with the narrow rims.
Also, the brake posts are welded a bit wonky on mine and this became very obvious with a V but less so with cantis.

Saw two fellow Pompinos on my commute this morning, a record for me. Functional, front racked bright blue one from Tulse Hill to Herne Hill and a fast looking light blue one in Moorgate. Both v cool.

There's at least two more pomps who regularly do Tulse to Herne.
A black Pompetamine (so not a Pompino) and mine, which is yellow.

Cool, I do it every morning and evening on a white Pompino but not spotted these ones before. Usually go through the park for more niceness tho

Tektro CR720 or Shimano CX50? Any direct benefit of one over the other? The only thing I can find between them is that Tektro's are all black which will match the rest of the build (which is v shallow of me). Are the Shimano's easier to install/maintain?
Also I have a pair of each so depending on what I go for I'll have a set for sale, £25 for front and back (either the 720s or CX50s)

I've experienced a little more braking power with the Shimanos. Both are fine though.

Fuck cantis.
Best Paul rim brake coming through...

£90 for one brake, christ

But just think how many times a picture of your bike could be seen online with rad hipster components.
You can't buy that.

Not trying to be critical, it's just seems like a lot of money (especially to slap on a frame that discounts as low as £150)

I've got a pair of Avid Ultimate Shorties on my Pompino. They cost more than the frame and fork.

I am enjoying Tektro RX6

Any Pompino users cut out their chainstay bridge without drastic effects? In need of more mud room. I've already stretched them out to a 130mm hub so what could go wrong.

Considering this is a low cost frame we're talking about, I would advised against this.

An odd logic.

Not entirely.
Pompino aren't the toughest of frame you can get, the chainstay for instance are susceptible to cracking.
Structurally wise, shouldn't be a problem cutting it, but with the Pompino I would advise against it.

Does it come with someone to pull the brakes for you?
-
• #5144
Not entirely.
I'm not arguing against your proposition that chopping bits out of a frame which is already known to be weak in that area is a bad idea, just that your suggestion that the price has anything to do with the question seems spurious.

Those are probably all down to the bridge acting as a stress riser, no?
Only kidding, probably won't cut it out. Not till October at least.

The green one definitely broke where it did because the owner failed to cut out the bridge. Without that user error, it would have snapped off at the BB shell :-)

I've got the CR720's, they work fine, not quite as good as my road calipers (SRAM Apex) but can't really fault them.
I looked at the Shimano's too and went for the Tektro's for the same reason you're thinking of them - they're black.

I cut out the chainstay bridge on a Pompetamine (so same-same). Result: chainstay hairline crack 1 year later.
But could be a coincidence...

It's very possible that I'm lashing out due to jealousy. I'm already £150 over budget for the project and I have still have to get the wheels built, figurE out how to install canti brakes and buy a carbon expander bung #withmymindonmymoneyandmymoneyonmymind

But you didn't buy them for the pomp, you got them for a titanium race frame and only put them on the pomp when you upgraded the race bike and the Avids were sent to the surplus parts box in the shed. It's different when you are buying expensive shit for a cheap frame rather than getting further use from something you wouldn't otherwise be using.
