Slack chain, but really nice.
-
• #2679
It does look a bit like a cartoon dog skidding to a stop though. Everything's tilting backwards.

Chain is not that slack. It makes it easier to change tube without having to use tools to loosen the chaintensioner. I haven't dropped the chain ever.
Forks are a bit long making everything tilt back. Seat tube and head tube are now 72 degrees. But I don't mind it at all. It still feels fast and descends very nicely. Saddle should be tilted a bit forwards, but I haven't noticed anything while riding.
Anyways it's a race bike not a looker. Who cares it's cheap and fun -
• #2681
Yeah, I wasn't criticising it, just pointing it out. Looks like great fun, and like it's being used properly. Unlike my poor Pompetamine, sitting unused in a shed despite being an absolute joy to ride.

I'm sure someone's done it already but:
shimano hollowtech cranks on hollowtech BB with formula hub and shimano freewheel.Any massive problems with chainline using the outer ring mount?
(and chain tensioners right?)

OH my dear god
I just searched 'pompino' in google images looking for pictures of pomps.
DO NOT do that at work or any other public place.

Is that the kinesis pure cx fork?
-
• #2689
No, its Leopard custom CX-1 if I remember it right.
-
• #2690
A pure CX fork looks like this on a pomp .. taken from my soon to be completed build.

Just pulled the trigger on an XL Pompino for SSCX racing this winter. Plan is to get a respray off James1234 of this parish, so should look a little different to the current glut of Pompinos.
-
• #2692
Hmmm...does James1234 offer his services commercially? Is there a thread?
-
• #2693
He has a thread. He's very much a commercial enterprise, drop him a PM.

I pulled the trigger a few weeks and have very much enjoyed building mine up and the couple of times I have ridden it. Any ideas on colour + forks yet?
-
• #2695
can anyone recommend a fairly cheap but still decent disc wheelset for a Pompetamine? My girlfriend is looking to pick one up to use as a commuter.
(also recommendations on disc brakes too)

Probably a dark pearl grey. Might go for something a bit more ostentatious, I'm undecided.

Probably the cheapest option with decent stopping power:
http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/WPM1250525/mach_1_820_rims_on_deore_m525_29er_wheelset + spacer kit if singlespeed + Hong Kong BB7s with some decent cable housing -

Yeah would be singlespeed.

Also worth a look. Better hubs, similar quality rims

cheers. I'll check them out.
Do no one make singlespeed disc hubs? or do you always have to usen a spacer kit?
I'm currently without employment so buying one bike to cannibalise and a frame may be a bit tricky (although I had considered it previously) basically, I think if I can get a second hand frame with headset, bb and cranks for about £100 I can do it
