  • Really?... (I've seen a few done as off-road, and the ALL-CIty is also 120mm spaced, like a track frame and has canti-mounts)

  • Edscoble, please tells us what you think on having a steamroller set-up for off road? (i'm serious :)

  • The NatureBoy is nice. It's got more clearance though. I imagine a lot of the Surly's are ridden in California?* It's much, much dryer there. In the UK it's all about mud clearance!

    *perhaps not but a guess.

  • Even a Pompino will get clogged up at winter CX races if it's sticky.

If you're not racing, and avoiding the mud a bit it's probably not important though.

  • If you want to play in the mud, get a Pompetamine

    Well, actually...

(ignore the stem, didn't have a zero rise stem yet).

    Will be like this but 8x1 with bar end shifter;

Le Tour de Kingsland Road? ;D

The 1st idea is taking it to my sunny and quite dry Lisbon, have it has my back home hack.

  • All those Cali' setups will be great then. Ignore me. :D

  • Had a few upgrades since, hope headset, carbon post ect
still have a love/hate thing going on with this bike. great feeling to overtake full sus superbikes on it but then some days it hurts so bad I want to throw it away, like when I thought it would be the perfect bike for a 60mile bridleway sportive. It wasn't :(
Also not that good in a foot of snow

  • keep thinking about cutting off the rear canti mounts but then it does limit my options if I decide to run a brake in the future

  • Don't do it.

Here's mine. Have to get a new one now though after cracking the seat tube and seat clamp section.

  • Uuhh.. that's a nice(r) finish.
    Polo bike?

  • Yeah, they work well for polo.

  • I've ridden TeenSlain's Brooklino... ride's like a drunken mule.

  • ^^ I like that alot.

  • There is an awesome Pompino alternative for sale here

For those that may have missed it. It's a 55.5cm.

  • I am building one ;)

Not sure if a Pompino though, got to agree with negaatio here: "...I think the real question is why wont on one make pompinos more attractive like surly does...".
Not that I dislike the Pompino that much, but I'd go with carbon forks maybe, cyclocross ones.
I like the fact Pompinos are cheap as chips
    .

    *Glad this isn't Italy :D

I like the look of the Pompino. Just wish they'd stuck with those track ends for the Pompetamine. I know it's to keep the disc brake out the way if you want to run a rack or guards but they're fugly

    He looks, he finds..

(It's actually a belt drive Pompino!)

Not a fan of this although the track end mod is interesting.

Also the forks look to be a bit short. I think mdcc_tester said the pomp forks are about 10mm longer than most from axle to crown.

Would prefer a straight fork tho. Can anyone suggest one the right length with a disc mount. That gray one would be perfect to me with discs

    About the Pompetamine

  • Here's mine. Have to get a new one now though after cracking the seat tube and seat clamp section.

Oh no Cam, how did you manage that? Is this the first polo pomp casualty?

  • Maybe. Too many pivots and hops I guess. Sadface.

  • I've ridden TeenSlain's Brooklino... ride's like a drunken mule.

I'll take that as a compliment, nuknow...
I haven't ridden either my Roberts or my Colnago for something like a month now... Pure joy, even on 38GI all over town...
I'm still waiting for a replacement rim to turn up for my new hub geared wheel, then I'll probably sell all my other bikes... ;P

  • About the Pompetamine

Sorry my bad, I thought they were essentially the same frame and fork but with different brake mounting hardware.
