How do you decide between 32c and 35c for cross?
-
• #2253
32 for racing under UCI regulations, 35 if you're an outlaw :-)

Thanks. What is the reason for that rule? Knowing the uci i won't be a good one.

Cheers Tester.

What is the reason for that rule?
http://www.cxmagazine.com/vardaros-editorial-uci-tire-width
According to UCI, “The intent was to reduce the amount of equipment that many riders feel they must bring in order to be competitive.”
Can't see how it will have this effect; people will still bring 3 different sets of wheels/tyres, only change is that instead of 34mm mud and 32mm dry tyres, all of them will be the same width.

I lurked this thread heavily before building up my Pompino. Finished it up then decided I'd register and post it in here.

What fork is that?

• #2260
Fuck, anodised bits that don't look rubbish!
-
• #2261
haha i love spendy pomp builds, such a 'fuck you' to practicality and reason considering the price of the frame. are those Pacenti rims? looks great
-
• #2262
When you headset costs 90% of the price of your frame... :)
-
• #2263
What fork is that?
Winwood Dusty most likely. I got it secondhand from a friend and he said it was a Winwood fork off another frameset. I believe they are no longer made.

Kaffenback- anyone got one? Any good?
I believe it's a Pompetamine frame with a mech hanger- is that accurate?

A testament to just how good the frame is then, surely.

They're Velocity Dyads.

I believe it's a Pompetamine frame with a mech hanger and an ugly paint job- is that accurate?
Ftfy

Yeah, the paintjob would see it sent straight to Armortex, but that aside?

the geo looks the same on the website but i notice that the new kaffenbacks have curved seatstays, god knows why. i think they look a bit naff but i guess it's a minor detail.

At least as good as you guys in this thread make it out to be, hah. Without this thread I probably would have never pulled the trigger on my Pomp.
Cheers. What brakes too? They look great

I really want a Kaff. I emailed planet x to see when they'd be back in stock and they said early July. He also referred to it as the kaffenback 2. Is the one currently out the kaffenback 2 or does this mean it'll be a new model? Hopefully it will have a better paint job anyway.
I could just about get a 40c slick on wide rims (making the tyre about 44mm wide) into my Pompetamine, but with very little clearance. Currently using 700x35 Marathon Racer, which comes up over 38mm wide on my rims. Based on that, clearance should be OK with a 35c CX tyre as long as your rims are not super wide.
