Cutting 100g out of my frame
-
• #1678
It's the trail that matters not the rake. 7mm less rake -> 7mm more trail= 10% if your old trail was 70, 14% more if you started at 50mm trail.
LOL
And the trail is not affeced by the rake?
-
• #1679
He's saying that the way to get a better idea of your handling is through measuring the trail, not just the rake, as the trail is a product of rake and headtube angle, not just one of them.

Just ride it in the summer when you can wear shorts and a tshirt. Or only ride it after a shit.

• #1682
how much did you save by removing the cable guides?
-
• #1683
Ha ha, I don't know how much the cable were. Couple of grams each at least! :)
I'm also cutting my toe nails more regularly for increased performance!

Can I ask a quick question about about cranksets?
The Miche crankset I want to use on my Pomp has a 1/8 chainring, but I think the cogs used on SS freehubs are 3/32. How do people get around this? Change the chainring to a 3/32? I could do without spending the extra £££s.
Also, without going for Dura/Record chainsets, are there other light options around, which are good? The Miche Primato is 603g which looks hard to beat.
Final question (and possibly the dumbest) - how reliable are track BBs when used outdoors? My bike's going to get wet a lot, and be ridden on back roads and lanes with poor surfaces, gravel etc. Can a track BB/crankset take the punishment?
Thanks for any help, and sorry for not starting a new thread.

an 1 1/8 chain will go on both. a bit heavier though.

Either buy ⅛" sprockets, which are available but less common than 3/32" ones, or just run ⅛" chain on the thin sprockets like everybody else does.

Only if you ignore the 250g to 300g or so that a square taper BB weighs, not to mention the chainring and bolts. 603g sounds like the weight of bare cranks. Plenty of external BB road chainsets can be adapted to single speed duty, and they are nearly all better than Miche Primato. Using a road crank also solves the chain and sprocket problem, since you can just use the inner ring as your single chainring and run 9-speed chain on most 3/32" singlespeed sprockets, all of which saves weight.

He needs to get this thread moved into the CP Forum

oh, yeah, that one.
get that one moved and use it to these kinds of things.
don't get me wrong; I like following your project so having it all in one place would be nice. -

Sorry - you're right. How do I get a thread moved or should I just repost to the frame thread?

Ask a moderator to move it, via this thread. You want it moved into Forum 61

Thanks tester - request submitted.

Cool. I'll look out for 1/8" sprockets. Didn't realize they existed. I presume that's the 'proper' way to do things ...

Fair points. I'm open to suggestions for something better ...? Sugino cranks a better option? I can't really stretch to the Campag'/Shimano alternatives. I think Primato weight may be for cranks and ring, but not BB.

I already recommended FC-6600 in your other thread, I'm sticking to that. FC-5600 would do just as well, just get whichever is on offer at the best price. Difference between them is mostly in the outer ring which you'll be ditching anyway.

make sure you get a crankset/bb combo that accomodates the range of chainlines af the hope hub. the hub is made for mtbing so about between 46-52mm.

Road outer ring position works fine on my Pompetamine with the Hope hub.

I was also surprised by the above photo. ring is in outer position on an sram red set.

I don't see any problem with you posting what you have here. Think most of it has been pretty relevant to other people with pomps, especially the whole fork discussion.

Road outer ring position [campag]
ring is in outer position on an sram red set.
So the one thing we can probably rule out is a Miche track set on the normal 107mm axle. There are so many reasons not to touch Miche with a ten foot pole, but it's always good to add another application-specific one.

Agreed, wouldn't have thought it would sit that far in.
Also I can save about 100g by changing my saddle which will cost me less than £40 before I sell the old one on eBay.
