  • Can the aero warriors be used with rim brakes? Couldn't find much with a google..

I ran them on my polo bike with callipers and v brakes, took a while for the paint to wear down (was a bit sketchy with callipers to start) then they were fine for me...

    Ah, good point.

Probably not the best choice for rogan in that case.

  • Ah, was planning on using cantis hmmm

  • Maybe it's worth contacting Halo and asking why they advise against it?

  • Maybe just because they are not machined?

Also after learning the meaning of pompino the on-one description is quite hilarious.

"The Pompino will blow you away and leave you smiling after every ride..."

  • Can't see anything wrong with the M Part headset, for the money. Although I have no experience with that headset in particular, I have used pleanty of loose ball headsets without issue. Most cheap cartridge headsets just come appart in the same way anyway. They might seat a bit better for the 45 degree cartridge shape but that's about the only advantage that I can see (awaits tester to come and school me on that). Also, if you look at the reviews for the Ritchey headset, they're not that good and one states that the "sealed" bearings are actually exposed.

All the advantages of cartridge bearings are for the manufacturer, not the end user. Anybody can go into the headset business these days with a lathe and an account at TH Industries, whereas a loose ball design relies on in-house race finishing.

    I stand corrected

  • Cheers mdcc, would there be any benefit in going for 48h..? im only 9 stone so im guessing not, but not sure on this offroad stuff

48h is for tandems/heavy touring and polo. Really solid but heavier than 36 or 32. Also with 48h hubs and rims you'll have a very limited choice and will have to get them built or diy. If you're getting them built mos shops will charge approximately £0.80 per spoke and £25-£30 for labour per wheel plus whatever the cost of rim&hub you use. You'll soon cane your budget of £150.
However, I do recommend handbuilt wheels over cheaper, mass produced, machine built wheels. And if you can find a wheelbuilder willing to let you source your own hub, spokes and rim you could bring the cost right down.

I expect he asked about 48h because I suggested Halo AeroWarriors, which come OTP in 32h or 48h. No custom/diy building required.

  • hmmm

    PX/Novatec 32h track hubs £40
    Rigida/Weinmann X-Plorer rims £10
    ACI spokes £20
Beer to drink while building your wheels £89 (3 dozen)

    Seems like £159 well spent.

  • Have On One stopped making the Pompetamine? They only seem to have small ones left.

  • Oh right, don't know how I got onto a page with just small ones.

  • All these pomps with front disc brakes are making me green. Any recommendations for a ready built wheel? Alternatively I think I could persuade my mate to loan me his wheel building paraphernalia and have a go myself. So any recommendations for a hub etc?

I am well versed in beer drinking so do not require recommendations as to that part of the process.

  • Most 29er disc wheels should fit on the front. Halo Aerowarrior maybe?

  • In can haz Ti Pompetamine?

  • I think your bike has some mud on it...

  • All the titanium and a cheap steel fork?

    anti.

  • That's a glow in the dark steel fork, wash your mouth out. It's currently a parts bin bike anyhoo...

  • They need to give it a bigger head tube, all the hot CX disc forks are tapered only

  • I have in the back of my kind the image of a blue Pompino with a pair of yellow Answer Accutrax forks, running a disc.

I'm not sure Accutrax were made in a disc version so I may be making this up entirely.

    What other forks are similar?

    Project twos maybe?

  • I run P2s on my Pompetamine. They're heavy tho. Recon blue frame yellow P2s would look rad!

Does the ti prototype still have the hideous lookin rear disc mount/dropout found on the steel version?

  • Different, but still not pretty.

  • If I keep my replacement pompino frame (still need to send off the cracked one) I'm pondering what forks to go with... I might consider a carbon CX fork like the Kinesis Pure CX. I can't picture what it would look like though, but I like the idea of a straight fork leg.

    Any other recommendations?

  • What size is yours steve? (if you dont keep it and its a small id be interested in buying)
