There are loads around here- give me an idea of colour/sex/size and I'll pop out with the net.
Two quite friendly looking foxes also, if anyone wants one of those.

evans in nottingham is sellign a 58 BMC cross bike with Sram something for 989....
can check what it is if you want? -
• #55
Tongue in cheek Dan, not aimed at you either!
no offense taken :)
105 is a perfectly good groupset. Tbh I couldn't justify anything better until I am significantly fitter and lighter anyway - don't want to be one of those 18.5 stone dentists riding a £4.5k Cervelo..

Right, I got distracted from my original purpose- to end up with a decent CycloCross bike that works as a winter trainer for the road as well as light offroad duties, and to upgrade my roadbike.
So- budget is approximately what I was going to spend at the start of this thread: £1,250 or thereabouts.
First off, Planet-X Uncle John with Sram Force at £1,169 here
Focus Mares AX 10 Ultegra at £1,045 here
I cannot really find much more than that.
If I give up on the idea of upgrading my road bike then there is the Cannondale CAADX 105 at £999, but I'd really like to be able to have effectively two "new" bikes.
Could anyone help with more suggestions?

Are you buying it through the cycle to work scheme?
-
• #58
No- my place of work refuse to provide that option. I am buying with cash money-yo
-
• #59
Why are you buying a complete bike then? Would it not make more sense to get a frame and forks then buy the bits you need?
-
• #60
You could start with this;
-
• #61
I was under the impression that you always (or nearly always) got the best deal when you bought a complete bike, so to maximise value I thought I would do that and then swap stuff around.
-
• #62
That used to be true, but nowadays the power of the internetz means it is much easier to get what you want for cheap, innit.
-
• #63
I've been putting that to the test- try this challenge yourself:
Purchase the following:
Brakes
Cables
Chain
Cassette
Front and rear mech
ShiftersFor less than you'd pay for a whole groupset.
For example try purchasing the Dura Ace groupset without chainset and BB and see if you can do it for less than a grand.
I can't!

Ultegra? What brakes do you want?
-
• #65
I had been just choosing the 2011 Ultegra calipers not really knowing a better alternative- very willing to listen to suggestions?

I can hear no fat lady singing?
-
• #69
...well at least the final 20mins where he kicks off and evans give him what he ordered...
-
• #70
Kick off in Evans and you are shouting at someone who is probably doing their best, is poorly paid and will not be able to knock the 25% off the price that would make you buy the bike ordered in the first instance.
Unfair on the shoutee and makes the shouter look a little silly.
-
• #71
take it to the top, think big man
-
• #72
I reckon that Evans would simply lay the blame at Cannondales door.
-
• #73
Right- I have come to a decision.
Cannondale Caadx 105 will be ordered tomorrow.
I will also upgrade the SystemSix as and when good deals come up, with an eye to climbing first and foremost.
So someone please by my Ksyriums so that I can buy Dov's Easton's!

The Giant TCX 1 is a better bike for £100 more
-
• #75
This one?
What aspect is better would you say?
Has this been resolved yet?
