ideally nets should be sunday morning for one hour 11-12, then lunch / pub..

i'd rather play with cricket balls. i have gloves and am happy to buy pads if it turns out we've not enough between us.
but would be worth picking up practive balls so that if there's a small group free one day without a car they can still go and have a knock without all the gear
let me sort out nets first, then we can decide what to bring..
playing with cricket balls means pads, gloves, box, maybe even helmet, much prefer to start soft, build up everyones confidence that way.
i am right handed most are, but there are a least two left handers on the list..

ok but if the practice balls don't make a lovely satisfying *'twock' *on the bat, i may have to make sound effects with my mouth ;-)
sundays fine for me btw

Oval has indoor nets for £37 per hour for up to 6 people. (can vouch for these being good)
http://www.kiaoval.com/surrey-cricket/cricket-centres/ken-barrington-cricket-centre
Regents park has nets i think, some info here (£10 for an hour maybe - 2010 prices) I'll email a friend about these as he was using them last year
http://www.royalparks.org.uk/docs/hub/2010/hub%20charges%2001.pdfPaddington Recreation Ground Maida vale have some reasonable outdoor nets, a little cramped and no room for long run ups not sure of prices though
http://www.nuffieldhealth.com/Individuals/Community-Fitness/P/Paddington-Recreation-Ground/If i think of anymore i'll put them up. Also interested in playing if it doesn't clash with games for my club (play at least once a weekend), chucker, all or nothing smasher and umpire!

i love that sound 'twock'.. especially when you have found that sweet spot on the bat, and the ball is over the boundary.. good point made about paddington rect, the nets are tight.. we shouldn't exclude anywhere just yet, maybe try out a few venues
Victoria Park is a bit far for me but willing to give it a go, i have put in an enquiry.
one hour practise sessions to start with.. three bats / twelve practice balls i reckon :) -

excellent organisation guys
and what date are we thinking of (This sunday is east ride)? -
• #83
let me get some dates sorted once i have contact from venues..
then go with most popular.. i'll chase them this week, hoping to start either sunday 27 february or sunday 6 march.. lets make it bi-weekly or weekly depending on interest. most of us will be rusty, so let's just enjoy ourselves..
once we have nets established, we can start to think about finding opposition to play against.

excellent plan.
We can discuss potential opponents when we meet at nets. I know that a couple of my mates are planning summer fixtures around now so will let them know we'll be in touch soonlet me get some dates sorted once i have contact from venues..

I can happily get my kit from home, just need to go back at some point, got a full set of pads etc, just no bat.

paddington rect.. http://www.courtneys.co.uk/centres/PadRec
does anyone own a westminster leisure card or live in westminster..?nets are £5.25 per hour (full price) £3.80 per hour (with w.card)
12 players = 3 nets i reckon for one houralso stumps / bailes £1.80 per item +£20 deposit
i am happy to book this next sunday, start net practise 27 feburary, no idea about cancellations yet..
names here if you want this:-
almac68 - i'll bring two bats, not bringing pads, can someone buy practice balls?

So £5.25 / 12 = 43p x 3= £1. 29 each per hour** without **a westminster card. Affordable i think
in... EDIT: Just noticed that ride East is on 27th (I thought it was this sunday mistakenly).
can we do 6 march?

price per net (and not per head)?
i'm up for 27th but some might be on the Ride East.
i can buy balls. do you mean the fairly heavy ones with just a bit of give in them, that are sometimes red/white to show seam position? or the lighter softer orange ones?

I agree, we can bring some real balls to the mix for those that want to face them though.
If I make it I can bring a bat and pads and batting gloves, got a taped up practice ball with some life left in it.
I find the practice balls are just slightly too light, which makes them a bit wayward for tossed-up spin.

It's now a cricket helmet again, I just bought a new polo helmet last week.
-

okay Rob agreed, suggest we split the nets for those that want to face a real delivery.. then hopefully everyone gets something out of the session..
just so you all have flavour of what to expect..

team photos ftw..
i've had some great cricket memories over the years, beating arups at north midd is always a good one.. if G&T and SR need opposition this summer, and we are available as a squad, then the occassional twenty20 on a wednesday night will be worth it.

this sounds brillint!
i'd love to get involved but my experience of playing is limited to a couple of very brief spells at no.11 in an under 11s game as a last resort substitute (i didn't even know the rules!) and dicking about in the nets it victoria park at uni... oh and playing for days on end with a broom handle and tennis ball while tending the courts at wimbledon in 1998. 1st team i am not.
a mate of mine was telling me on friday that him and a bunch of mates have hired out the indoor nets at the oval a few times. sometimes they hire a pro coach for a couple of hours as well. between 10 or 12 of them it doesn't work out all that much in the end.

I also used to play at the north middlesex ground and the hampstead heath extension when i was a teacher in Camden We played in the Camden secondary school teacher's matches through the 90s. As a mixed gender team we were 'The Hero's and Virgins'
agreed. people are much more likely to cough up money after we've had a nets session
