i'm actuallt next door to the oval these days. last time i used vic park nets (12 years ago?) they were free, a bit tatty but not particularly busy, even in high summer.
mind you that was during the nasser hussein years so...

awesome work so far.
i'd love to get involved but my experience of playing is limited to a couple of very brief spells at no.11 in an under 11s game as a last resort substitute (i didn't even know the rules!) and dicking about in the nets it victoria park at uni... oh and playing for days on end with a broom handle and tennis ball while tending the courts at wimbledon in 1998. 1st 11 i am not.
a mate of mine was telling me on friday that him and a bunch of mates have hired out the indoor nets at the oval a few times. sometimes they hire a pro coach for a couple of hours as well. between 10 or 12 of them it doesn't work out all that much in the end.
don't need any experience to come to nets. my own corridor of uncertainty is the width of the whole crease, but i'll show up.

received this from Oval, i'll contact Tom again to see if there are any cancellations.
suspect nets really need to be block booked before christmas, so not surprised.Alan,
Thanks for your email. Im afraid that we only now have off peak availability (weekdays prior to 5pm) until the end of April.
Apologies

For those interested in proper coaching the oval do have the following for £15
Drop-in clinics for adults are held on Friday nights at the Ken Barrington Cricket Centre from 7-9pm. These coaching sessions combine technical training, skills development and net practice for cricketers of all standards.
Not been myself due to uni so cannot vouch for them.

Paddington Rec have asked me to submit an application for hire of nets with dates.. whilst i don't mind doing this, i want to avoid paying for a block booking.. approx £15 a session (for upto 18 ) esp if players don't turn up for the training or see this as someone else's expense.
anyway the application is in,
also i don't personally want to pay for third party insurance, which we might need for any future matches in public parks. this all sounds very onerous and suspect that the parks are covering themeselves for sports like cricket/softball etc, where hard objects and the public meet..
i will object to needing insurance for net practise with paddington rec, as long as you all accept that there is a risk of injury.
-
• #109
yeah leave the insurance. if we have to get it when matches come around then so be it.
if paddington come back to you that they expect block booking payment up front, that cost needs to be spread in advance. i'm in. but if you can blag block reservation and pay weekly that's better

cheers OLC..
in an ideal world, we pay for each session on the day, therefore collect monies from each player, then confirm next session / booking with paddington rec when we return stumps.
i may consider a refundable deposit to secure bookings, i will also ask about cancellation due to bad weather as this is all uncovered..
the oval nets is not possible for sundays, so i am suggesting we aim for four sessions at paddington rec
6th march
13th march
20th march
27th marchif anyone one wants to take up kidboy's offer please discuss with him and make seperate arrangements.

I've got a Westminster res card and would be up for trying to play a bit of cricket, I've not played for a very long time though.

also the ground hire is very reasonable.. if we have 18 players.. suggest 9-a-side match after easter.. divide team into 2..
find a carbon bike to burn put ashes in a beer can..
voila we have a LFGSS trophy

alJust to note that is a regular drop in organised by the Oval, not me. Although I can talk a good game and help out with some adivce i'm not a qualified coach.
I'll try and make some of those nets, but have a ground and wicket to help get ready for the season, unfortuantely it's way down in kent so too far to offer for a game.

Will bring my kit and attend Paddington nets - family stuff allowing
-
• #116
kidboy..
if there is enough interest and we can put a team together.. there is no reason why we couldn't visit you in kent, not expecting to play against the first team.. but a day out might be rather good.. bring a picnic, catch a train, cycle over tail end of the summer
one to discuss later i think, but playing cricket, no matter where, if or how is what i live for..
apologies for suggesting oval nets as your call.. -
• #117
No worries, i did have a mate who's work had got a team together last year as they had a load of kit donated from puma i think (publishing company), I'll find out to see if they are still interested. I think they used the nets at regents park a few times, i'll ask him about that too.
