  • I think that for people that have been the subject of small mindedness such as this in the past, often ignoring it is the same as approving it.

  • Maybe, but for me personally I feel it's none of my business, just like the conservation of the builders in the pub down the road.* I didn't even know this football programme existed; maybe if I watched it I'd feel different, let down maybe.

For the record, the women I work and socialise with are intelligent, hard-working and shrewd, and this petty squabble would run straight off their backs. They set the standard in my book, not some catchy media debate about an obviously moronic remark.

What about the rest of them?

Thats a prettywell balanced view there.

I'd still say the builders are'nt media representatives so arent in a position of responsability, in terms of commentry.

At the end of the day they sound like tossers. They wont be missed.

Now that all angles have been covered. Time for cake?

  • If someone call me a nob, then i don't give shit. I just ignore them.

But if the impression thats given is that its ok for everyone to call me a nob, people will begin to think I am a nob, and i'm not. (well not all the time).

  • then those who broke the story and fuelled the media frenzy are more to blame, more irresponsible than those who believed acting like a lad was required. bad timing

sounds like you are trying to move the blame to the messenger. The media always throw in extra bits of comment but the original clip shows some inappropriate behaviour from people in the public eye at work.

Yeap, there is a difference. But imo, not much.

There is a massive difference. While you can't control what part of a joke people find funny the subject of the joke is very different.

People like Frank Boyle or Ricky Gervace are getting laughs from offensive material. What was the guy in the clip above doing? Trying to get a bit of a laugh/joke/props/affirmation/whatever by talking about someone smashing someone in.

I think there are big differences. As I said F.B offensive behaviour is more personal or about a cringe worthy subject ridiculous situation.

The other difference is even if the same joke was mad by two different people, one a comedian at a gig the other a football commentator at work. The difference is people pay to see a comedian, to see a show no matter what that may contain, they have an expectation and are free to leave. Other people are going to work had having to deal with this chap who is in a position of power over many of them and can't just leave. In a social situation on a more level playing field people are able to fight back more but due to restrictive dynamics at work this is less possible. This is key part of many laws, to "even up the playing field" in various scenarios.

The builders are also down the pub, these guys were at work.

  • What about the rest of them?

Tee hee, I'm sure ALL women are absolutely FANTASTIC.

  • The builders are also down the pub, these guys were at work.

Thats part of what I was getting at.

Anyway enough football and sexism, has'nt this moved into cake?

  • ^^ sorry my point about The Office sketch wasn't that clear. IMO it is at the 'good end' of the spectrum, where it is very clear that we are laughing at him. However, there is a lot of stuff out there - Little Britain is a great eg - where often it's just an excuse.

TBH I couldn't give a fuck. Watch and laugh at what you want to. I just think that when people fly the flag for comedies like FB, they are often being a bit naive.

  • hehehe loving smallfurry's cakes!

  • I think too many people are too interested in setting a moral code by which they think everyone else should abide by, getting all offended on behalf of a third party. In life the only thoughts and behaviour you can truly control is your own, so all you can do is set an example by living out the values you hold dear. Do what you think is right in the context of your own experience. I didn't even know about this shitty matter until Multi Grooves pointed it out.

    spot on.

  • hehehe loving smallfurry's cakes!

    Yes nice innocent cakes....

Deleted. Theres a line. That cake crossed it. End of.

  • Thats^so wrong.

  • Repost for the ladies.

  • I always imagine VB to look like that^

  • My imagination is fucked.

  • Looks damn hot on that cake.
    Definitly a 'confuser'.

  • TBF its all I've bloody heard on Radio over the last couple of days. I'm doing two years of tax returns doesn't mix with listening to proper tunage. On the one hand it's no biggie but when you consider how football is the national/global game, how many have sky sports subscription and that these two blokes have been there since DAY1...it's is pretty big. Given the number of recent media led national indignations and attempted resetting of our moral compasses I'm wondering how much difference this will make to other work places?

  • Can we get this thread moved out of the ladies' forum though?

  • ^ ha ha yes - the ladies don't care. apparently.

  • I thought this thread for guys to prove how "right on" they are and how they are aware of womens issues. So are we not posting here as a covert pick up strategy?

Have I just blown our cover?

  • Yes, I'm not even sure why it's in the Ladies forum.
    consider it moved.

  • Oh internet mum! I was doing so well showing my sensitive side. The ladies won't see this now.

  • We do read other parts of the forum too James.
