  • anyway, i just wanted to prove that ain't man and dont look like a boxer (so possible confrontation with thief - as suggested earlier - would probably not be in my favour)

anyway, it's SWANS not dead swans. its new york noise band

  • Im talking about the Brighton Hardcore Band.

    innit.

anyway, has no motherfucker laid claim to their bike yet?!

I'd give you my bike if you pulled that face at me.

  • thanks. i'll remember that for the future if i ever meet you in person

  • racist

    That's a cracker.

  • That's a cracker.

    OR

  • What this thread needs is more people reading the thread and not understanding why the things in the thread happened and then posting in the thread asking people why the things in the thread happened and then people explaining why the things that happened in the thread happened. That would make this thread better.

I haven't read the whole thread, so this will have been said: "Bravo Nikola"

(call the rozzers to fingerprint the bike? - maybe they wouldn't be interested...)

  • Since this has yet to be sorted Nikola, can I ask what your plan is should no one come forward to claim it? Over to the fuzz?

  • im planning to wait few days and try what i can and then what else can i do other than hand it to a police?

  • Police presumably the best bet. Do they return it after a few months (in which case perhaps a whip round to reimburse you / and a donation to a bike charity (do any exist that might be interested?), or is it irrevocably 'stolen' and bound for a police auction if they fail to find the owner?

At which point you may discover the owner has already reported the bike stolen and you may bent of pocket.

Not a great result, hope that a better resolution is achieved.

But (and Nikola please don't think I'm having a pop - because I'm certainly not) if I was the owner and I'd done the right thing by reporting the theft to the fuzz, I'd hope that anyone who had my bike would have handed it in. If I then discovered that said person had an on the spot decision to make and had paid 60 quid out to get it, then I guess I'd sort them out too.

Also, am I not right in thinking that any 'lost property' handed to the police by a member of the public is by rights the property of that person, should they want it after a certain period of time has passed? (I was rather pointlessly offered a pair of prescription glasses which I handed in once).

  • But if you hand it in as stolen property that you have paid for...

  • With all the debate that's gone on here it would crack me up if it wasn't even nicked...

just some misguided soul that bought a fixie back in the long off days of 2009 when they were oh so cool and hasn't rode it since he fell off like a tool in front of a androgynous but strangely attractive girl wearing thick rimmed spectacles and tore a hole in his favourite leggings... and in a pique of slight impoverished rage when he was struggling for beer money he thought 'fuck it, I'm getting rid of that useless cunt of a bike that I bought because I thought I'd be like that guy in Quicksilver but just embarrassed me and now gears are back in fashion...'

    I guess we'll never know.

  • I'm positive that the police wouldn't have a pop at you for this kind of thing, it seems like a pretty reasonable and decent action to take to me .

  • Prancer

Are they really going to waste their time doing Nikola for HSG when she liberated it with the intention of locating the owner and then brought it to the police? I'd say that the only danger of her causing trouble for herself is if she holds on to it for too long.

  • it's a band! tut tut

Do people still listen to Swans? Blimey, that takes me back to my youth.

  • I went to school with him, bottom right.

  • Why not contact the task force, explain that "a friend" has done what you did and ask them what the best course is?

  • Wrongcog

I think you have misunderstood. In terms of a good deed Nikola's actions were commendable. My concern is that plod may not be so charitable and assume that the bike was stolen, it has been bought as stolen goods and that the buyers conscience has got the better of them...

There is a distinction between moral and legal that you do not appear to understand.

  • With all the debate that's gone on here it would crack me up if it wasn't even nicked...

it would crack me up if people would finally stop with speculative accusations.

  • with as much appreciation as i have to anyone's willingness to help, it got to the point when im getting a little tired of this.
at the first place i asked for an advice to locate a bike owner not anyone's opinion on if what im doing is morally correct or incorrect and if i should have done this or that and what i should do next. this debate has been spanning for two days now, distracting me from my work (and search), only so i can go and defend myself and my doings on bike forum. I'm only asking for help finding the owner, leave the rest to my conscious decisions (i aint fik)
PM me if you have any leads to the said person....but im leaving this thread, it's just leading nowhere really.
thanks for all the advice that has been given to me, to the haters F.U. (haha)

  • oops..

    wasn't me

  • I think that most 'advice' posted on this thread seems to have been on the whole supportive of the OP. That said, Nikola's frustration duly noted and head well and truly pulled in. No more 2pennys from me.

  • It's not a waste of time to the police though - It's a sanctioned detection, and a good result. They're agnostic to the reasons.

Cheers for that Tiswas. I suppose I'm a little naive about what motivates the police to make arrests etc'. Interesting grey area this though.
