Probably best to get two. Non-matching lockrings :O
-
• #6178
On the off chance, does anyone have a spare one of these lock rings in SE they’d consider selling to be picked up today?

I got a bike shop to attach a new rear calliper as I don't have the stuff for hydraulics, I've finally got round to building the bike and I have to pull the lever all the way to the bars before it starts to bite and even then barely stops the wheel. Am I right in thinking it just needs more brake fluid?
-
• #6180
sounds like they did a shit job or the caliper is leaking
-
• #6181
Yeah but they didn't charge much and they mostly do vintage bikes so I'm not too surprised or bothered. I don't think the caliper is leaking because I haven't seen any drips or fluid coming out
-

Take it to a shop that knows what they are doing. Possible that the inappropriate bike shop fucked it - busted calliper / contaminated pads / shit bleed etc.
-
• #6183
Balls, was hoping to take it for a ride this weekend.

• #6184
might just be air in the system. easy to sort out yourself - https://epicbleedsolutions.com/collections/bleed-kits

+1 to this

• #6186
I love it when people suggest brake bleeding is easy. Yes it is! - if you've done it ten times before and made all the dumb mistakes already.
-
• #6187
I disagree, if you are somewhat mechanically minded and can watch a few youtube videos it really isnt that hard (shimano).... Diagnosing a leaking caliper/lever is trickier though I admit
of course a good LBS would sort it in <15 minutes

Shut up clean-shirt

Its called epic because it will end up feeling that way ! A bit like a short trip to A+E.

This.
Have to do a repair on one cause the hydraulic leak on the hosing.
-
• #6191
Then sound like they didn’t bled it enough, like only a couple pass and several squeeze of the levers.

I've given up on Hy/rd (front was fine, rear was too faffy and never worked well on caad12 internal routing) and gone full hydro instead. Anyone in the market for some Hy/rd calipers? I have 2 post and one flat mount. They work great if your cable run doesn't require bending round the BB on the inside of the frame...
-
• #6193
How much? I might interested in post mount
-
• #6194
Sounds like there's not enough pressure on the system. Get it to someone good with hydros and will sort you out in 10 minutes.
-
• #6195
No no no! Order a kit online, wait a bit, faff around for few hours trying to do it, get all oily and dirty, contaminate some pads, think you've fixed it, find out you haven't (on a ride), get really annoyed, THEN take it to a pro.
-
• #6196
That's what I'm thinking, more pressure is just more liquid in the system yeah?
-
• #6197
I see you've encountered my mechanic skills before
-
• #6198
more pressure is just more liquid in the system yeah?
No - it's primarily an almost complete absence of air and water.
-
• #6199
Water! I'll see if I can take it somewhere tomorrow.

water
Water's not compressible at typical earth temperatures. Many trials riders have run water instead of normal brake fluid.
Ah, okay. Yes, you'll definitely need one of those.
