Nashbar had a carbon 1" with disc tabs a while back.
Edit: here it is
Edit again: sorry, forgot you were looking for steel. The one above does have mudguard eylets though and you could use the canti mounts to attach a small front rack, like a nitto M12 or similar.

Canti mounts would actually help as I´m using a Nitto Campee rack which attaches to them.
It irritates me more and more that they chose to name the two sizes so similar making it hard to google.

Anyone got a decent solution to the issue of a disc brake pulling the wheel out of alignment in the fork?
Ive swapped the axle to a nutted one which is fine since I have the Alfine on the rear so carry a 15mm but there must be a way to run QR and discs.

Have the knurled bits on the qr worn? Is it a bit of a shit qr? Get a new shimano one?
-
• #556
It is a new Shimano one!
I had this before on a polo bikeshed I was using allen key skewers and my solution then was the same, nutted axle.
I expected the Shimano skewer would mean I didnt get a reoccur acne of the problem. :(

Have an odd problem with my front BB7: the pads appear to stick to the rotor and lock up the front wheel if you squeeze it while stationary, a smack to the front tyre tends to free them and they pop off and the wheel rolls fine.
Cleaned the rotor, picked some shit from around the pads and gave them a quick sand, checked cable, liner, levers and then actuation arm's not bent. Any suggestions (other than buy Shimano hydros) before I pop it in at the LBS next week or swap the BB7 on my beater onto this instead...

Can you see if the piston is retracting or not?
My brakes were doing similar but I could see the piston was retracting and leaving the pad behind. I bent the spring between the pads apart a bit and cleaned the space where the pads sit/move and it cured it.
If your piston isn't tetracting then could be its dirty! Not too sure how bb7s actually work or if they have a piston.

Some friends arrived so I've just put the one from the other bike and it seems to work for now. Will take a proper look tomorrow, beer has become my top priority for the remainder of the evening.

New fork I'm afraid, doesn't sound like your fork have a lips.
-
• #561
Never been kissed?
-
• #562
Fork definitely has lips, it's a Suely Krampus fork. The other fork it happened with was a Unofix polo/trials fork and also had lips. Wheel only moves to the point where the lips stop it, but that's enough to make the brake rub.

What QR are you using? Sounds like it needs dong up tighter. I've had no probs with disks and standard shimano QRs on a couple of bikes.
-
• #564
Since it's not the fork, and nor the Shimano quick release (let face it, there's none better), how is the face on the front hub's axles?
-
• #565
Oh yes, Shimano, I missed that. As MV has no probs with nutted axle, it must be to do with the tightness of the QR.
-
• #566
I'd assume doing it tighter is the first thing you'd try.
-
• #567
I'm guessing I probably didn't have the QR tight enough this time and that previously the Allen key skewer was giving inferior clamping.
I actually stole the nutted axle from the deore disc hub on my pomp and put the QR axle back into it do I can experiment with doing it up tighter.

How bad is a mtb BB7 with a road lever going to be?
-
• #569
I'd guess at bad, probably have too much lever throw and bottom out on the bars.
-
• #570
Will have some of those tektro drop-v levers going spare and cheap in a week or two if it's for curlywurly bars...
-
• #571
Cheers for the offer but I have actually decided to go change the fork back to one with canti and lowrider mounts so just using a canti on the front which goes with the levers.

My XT rotor is partly worn now, bit annoying as it only done 5,000 miles.
hope floating rotor, yay or nay?
-
• #573
I like mine, wiggle do they're own brand now too if you want something cheaper
-
• #574
Re my wheel moving with qr skewer. I built and XT hub into a Kris Holm freeride and gave the qr another shot, works fine.
Maybe I've done it up tighter, maybe XT skewers are better than Deore skewers?
Success anyway.

How the face on the Deore skewer?
didn't all city or surly make some for a while?
