Open port, screw in cup, fill with oil, cover cup with the cap, then squeeze several time, lift and drop bike to bring out bubble, keep it up, bingo.

Saints and 200mm rotors or GTFO.

I'm tempted but got a set of Hope Tech M4 so might use that instead...

I'm having some wheels built for cross racing and fast summer rides. I can get a decent price for Hope stuff so will be using their hubs and rotors.
Which Hope 140mm rotor do I want? Hard to tell the difference between them at times.

• #5058
Just use a shimano one.
-
• #5059
If they got wet it’s probably the water vibrating between the pad and rotor, otherwise sounds like contamination
-
• #5060
It's in the dry, so contamination seems to be the consensus. I'll try cleaning rotors and see if that's any better, otherwise I guess wait and see if it goes away or new pads?

You can take a lighter to the pads, wipe the black gunk off and repeat a handful of times. Worked for me!
-
• #5062
Good tip, ta - will give that a go!
-
• #5063
Sand the pads back, then set them on fire, clean the rotor with isopropyl alcohol, may require light sanding too
-
• #5064
set them on fire
This makes me shed a tear of nostalgia...

last time i looked shimano don't offer a 6 bolt 140mm rotor - has this changed?
-
• #5066
I bought some STP brakes cleaner spray can, cheap as chips and yeah very convenient to clean rotors!
-
• #5067
6 bolt is dead! My bad, I still wouldn’t bother with anything other than the hope fixed rotor the floating one is overkill for 140mn
-
• #5068
140mm so puny.
-
• #5069
It is, but on the rear it’s plentiul on a light road bike tho.
-
• #5070
its plentiful with my shimano hydros on a 10-11kg steel gravel/cross bike and a 100KG rider!
-
• #5071
Less pies... ;)
-
• #5072
I don't believe so, but others are available. TRP or SRAM has one I believe
-
• #5073
On the back, yes. On the front. No. I've lost count on how many cooked calipers I've replaced here in the past few months.
Average user + descents = dragging brakes. -
• #5074
Don't brake... ;)
On a serious note though, what calipers, pad and rotor combo?
-
• #5075
RS685's. RT99 rotors.
8070 Calipers. L02A pads. Most of the Calipers could be recovered. nearly all rotors were 140mm. All experienced heavy warping.
more likely just contaminated
