Just shout at it until it works

Assuming you don't round off any bolts, drop the bike while doing it or set fire to anything.

This!
It's not rocket science and yeah setting up disc brakes ain't as daunting as it sounds.

I'm looking for some diagnosis by internet.
Trying to set up some SRAM HydroR brakes for the first time. Calipers and Levers all connected up. Tried to put dot fluid in from the caliper end. Syringe very stiff and when I push it harder it just pisses out from somewhere around the caliper.
Feel like I'm doing everything properly :
- both ports open
- proper steam bleed kit with their own barbs etc
Any suggestions? Have I crushed the olives or blocked the system and other way?
- both ports open

what do I need to bleed TRP Hylex?
-
• #5035
Why would you push harder if the syringe was stiff?! Probably blown a seal...
anyway, I tend to draw the fluid in from the top and not had an issue so far

what can I use to cut hope braided hose?
-
• #5038
Do it in steps.
Knife to strip off the plastic outer
Dremel cutting disc for the braid
Cable cutter for the inner

Pads for TRP Spyres.
I previously went for Swisstop sintered but they're expensive and seemingly hard to find.
What are a good value for money pad? -

uberbike

I went with Uber pads and they’re great. The other one that’s usually suggested is superstar components but not sure about Spyre compatibility
-
• #5043
I would second the Superstar recommendation, the Kevlar pads seem to be a good middle-ground between bite and durability

Shimano B01S innit.

This!

tend to find uberbike stuff hit and miss, B01s work mint.

Thanks, sorry for the slow reply. These look good. What'll they be like fully loaded in the mountains? OK?
-
• #5048
As good as anything else resin/organic based, if you're worried you could get sintered pads or look at bigger/better rotors to deal with heat, or just avoid braking.

• #5049
Also upgrade the brakes, go hydro and/or 4 pots perhaps?

Do suddenly squeaky brakes mean my pads are knackered?
As exciting as that sounds, I'm gonna wait until after the weekend to try it. I have fucked things up with a bit of last minute 'maintenance' on bikes, when I actually really need them to work, too many times.
