I'd say "yes", as it's the rotors you're bedding-in rather than the pads.

Anyone know anywhere selling compressionless housing in bulk?
Also how does that stuff cope with bending around compact drop bars? I had a road pro set that had a length of standard housing on the end, presumably to bend better at the bars.

I can’t vouch for this but I was going to give it a go. Sold by the metre so buy multiple quantities of the listed item for multiple metres.

That was my thinking. There's so much conflicting advice out there I've always regarding it as a
bit unnecessary, particularly with sintered pads, but I did get through a new set in 30 minutes last week. -

Not bad, I guess ordering a few metres might negate the postage cost. One thing I came across was that it might require special ferrules to keep the strands in place, but not quite sure about this.

If you changed compound and are going in to nasty conditions I think you are on the right lines.

It bends fine round compact bars. The standard housing on the end would more likely be for the often awkward bend into the brake caliper.

The bolt (heads) on a 6 bolt disc wheel I have catch on my pompetamine's steel fork, the centrelock wheel I was hoping to replace is fine as the centrelock is lower profile. Is it worth trying a (few?) 9mm washers to move the wheel over. Has anyone else had/fixed this issue?

Totally new to disc brakes. I'd like to shorten the length the lever travels before the brake engages. On my Shimano hydro's.
How do I achieve this?

Disc brake newb here.
Bought a Felt QX75 for 700c disc brake fun, a couple of years ao, and it has become my beater/general purpose/outer west London suburbs trudging around bike.
Rear brake was whining. One of the brake pads had almost worn away,
and the other side piston had its brake pad in almost constant contact with the disc.
Disassembled, removed both rear pads and cycled to local bike shop to buy replacement pads for the Avid/Juicy3 set up.
Both pistons are moving,
but cannot get enough space between them to insert the new pads, let alone the pads spaces and disc.
Am I just not applying enough force on the pistons to get them to fully retract? -

It's amazing but I'm clueless. TBF that's not limited to brakes

Add more hydraulic fluid.

Really? I thought I had to tighten a screw/ bolt?

They naturally have a long throw, if you’re one of those people who like to set their brake up with the least amount of travel, then you’re outta luck.
Having said that, it should feel very sharp, if it’s soft, need a good rebleed to push more oil in.

Ah ok. Thanks

They naturally have a long throw..
Do the newer DA and Ultegra levers still have as much throw as the RS685/785s?
-
• #4470
TBF, they’re extremely powerful, that you really don’t need it to have less throw otherwise you’d be fling over when attempting emergency stop (once the pads bedded in).

no
Not ST-R9170 paired to BR-RS785 anyway, and the ST-R9170 paired to BR-R9170 are phenomenal; actually feel better than rim brakes.

It's been about ten years since I've used Shimano disc brakes, but one method I used was to remove the wheel/disc, squeeze the lever a couple of times to make the pistons come out, then top up the reservoir with fluid.
Just be careful you don't overdo it, otherwise the pistons will come out of the caliper completely.

I've got Shimano 785s with ice tech rotors and when its wet they dont half make a racket. It sounds like lots of crap is sticking to the rotors and grinding as the rotors pass the pads, the brakes work fine but I'm curious to why it's happening.
Is this normal? -

Update, pads needed replacing! Feels like new now. Pads had worn down to metal so assume they weren't the longest lasting as they seemed to go from grippy to nothing as I rode this winter.
Will buy some more pads online and attempt to replace myself next time round.. -

Sorry, I know this is a few pages back now but have you tried ditching the shit convex/concave washers and just using flat ones? Made bb7 setup a whole lot easier on my bike.
If I have a bike with two sets of wheels should I bed new pads in twice, once for each set of wheels?
