Never heard of them.
But I'd be asking not just how powerful they are, but how often they need adjusting, how reliable and also do they take standard pads.

You're right. I guess I just had this to think about on this snowy Sunday afternoon :)
@guillaume thanks for the precisions! I'm fairly certain now that my hoses don't have this installed.

Have the HY/RD's on my Genesis day one. Rode it into work today and could pull the front brake lever all the way to the bar with little or no braking coming from the brake.
Cable or hydraulic issue?
I've done no servicing of this bike since I brought it this time last year, and the last couple of months are the first time I've ridden it everyday since I've brought it.any tips to get this back on the road appreciated.

sounds like a hydraulic issue

Pads worn too far?
-
• #4432
Possibly the cable have been adjusted too much resulting in no auto-adjust for wear.
-
• #4433
Probably that ^ the arm needs to go all the way back for them to work properly, slacken off the cable and pull the arm back and forwards a few times, then set them up so it returns all the way.

@edscoble @snottyotter I haven't adjusted anything, apart from trying to stop the pads from rubbing on the disc itself. Will have a look and get back to you all..
I was wondering whether it was a fluid issue, possibly having to bleed the brakes or refill if the brake fluid was low...

I’d check the pads for wear first. TRP stock pads don’t last long, especially in gritty conditions.
-
• #4436
hmm, will do. any preference for replacements?

Whatever sintered pad is cheaper at Uber Bikes or Superstar Components.

Shimano resins, a lot of hy/rds get set up wrong from new as people don't realise they work differently than most cable discs, same goes for poor set up of spyres and bb7s.

Can you bleed HY/RD (or other hybrids)?
I thought they were sealed units.
-
• #4440
You can.

I had a similar issue with Hy/rds once - turned out that the reservoir cap plate had come loose - definitely worth checking.

I still haven't got around to buying a disc fork or caliper for my fixed gear with 1 1/8 straight head tube.
I'm currently thinking Condor Pioggia disc fork and Juin Tech R1 caliper. Are there any better options out there for similar money?
I would consider going full hydro (and will soon have a spare Shimano R785 caliper), but I'll only be running a front brake and want to run drop bar/same hoods on both sides. Currently got SRAM S500 hoods and I'm happy with the shape, more so than the tektro/cane creek type hoods.

Hylex?

I've got a frame awaiting the same treatment (fixed, one disc) and after much trawling, I've bookmarked the Pioggia and R1.
From memory, the Pioggia is pretty much the only suitable fork if you want carbon (perhaps I ruled out others on the grounds of cost). Kinesis do a fork, but the A-C height is cyclo-X, rather than road.
I settled on R1 because they are outstanding value for money and a HY/RD can be troublesome with regards to lever throw. You do loose pad self-adjustment, but that results in a smaller, lighter caliper.

No matching lever unfortunately.

This is @spinnnout Tempo that has the same front end.

Cheers, I've been wanting to get these bits for a while, might try to get them in time for my time off over xmas...
-
• #4448
I haven't really got any cash to spare, but give me a shout before you order the brakes: maybe we could go halves on a pair.
-
• #4449
Pioggia does the job and was the easy choice as Condor supplied it fitted with a frameset.
I've got Rival 1 hydraulic on another bike and while I've been tempted to look at the SRAM S900 Aero TT hydraulic lever for the fixie, I'm still very happy with the Juin Tech R1.
Only issue with the Juin Tech is that you have to buy a set.

Cheers, reckon I'll go for them soon.
I did see someone post in your thread that @Scilly.Suffolk linked to that suggested the Juin Techs weren't the most reliable and it was probably worth holding on to the 2nd one for when the first inevitably breaks. What's your experience been?
Are these super proper shit?
I dont need huge stopping power just a brake that works well enough to scrub a bit of speed.
