So i want to make sure i order the correct set of Spyres this time. From what i can tell the f&f is IS mount, as are the current Promax brakes so i will require a PM-IS adapter to fit TRP Spyres. This will (according to Wiggle) be included in the box.
There is some confusion however in reviews/questions over which adapter will allow 160 rotors to be fitted front and back.
I posted a question and got this reply from Wiggle (pictured below).Based on what they have said, do i need to order one 140mm (rear) and 160mm (front)?
Will it make a difference if i run 140 at the back?

Yep fitting a flat to post or IS frame is impoosibru without some ridic bodging

They should come with IS to PM adaptors. If not your LBS should be able to give you some.
140mm rotor at the back dials down the power a bit but in general you should have a smaller rear rotor as the brake needs to do less work anyway. If you want 160/160 get the L3.
Shifting the Flatmount versions you have shouldn't be too difficult id have thought.

could you please send a photo of the frame mounts?
Edit: And shimano makes all the adaptors. ever.

If you want to swap the new flat mount for a used set of post mount I'd be keen for that. (Obvs will give you a bit of cash to sweeten the deal). Only trouble is they'd have to be posted from Switz next week or could meet in London beginning of August. Send me a PM if it sounds possible!

Will the L3 be suitable for 160 on the front though? Wiggle man seems to say it's no, i'm confused.
I hate disc brakes already

The L3 comes with the 160mm disc, which would be more expensive to buy aftermarket than an IS to 160 PM adapter, so you'd be better off there.

Thats true.
I have a set of 160mm rotors already that came with the Promax brakes though. Will they they be alright to use with Spyre brakes?
If so i'll get a 160 and 140 for the adapter's. I've had a look and can't find anywhere to buy an L2 except from the states through Spyre, so expensive two week postage plus import tax. -

This will do the job.

It's usually best to match rotors to disc brakes, the braking surfaces should be the right depth for the pads.

Yeah, it certainly looks like it. I'll go for that then, many thanks :)

Got those Uber pads to test out. There seems to be less pad material on them than the Shimano standard pads but I like the fact you can replace only the pads not the whole finned thing.
Debating whether or not to use them before TCR. -

Okay so that's a fail. I ordered the fucking RS785 pads... which although that code matches my levers doesn't match the 805 flat mount calipers.
Anyone wants some Uberbike finned pads for RS785?

Yes

They were £25 for two pairs with Race Matrix pads:
https://www.uberbikecomponents.com/view-product/UBERBIKE-FINNED-RACE-MATRIX-ROAD-DISC-BRAKE-PADS-SHIMANO-RS785-RS685Also have £13.98 (2 pair) sintered pads to suit.
I've asked if they make 805 fins. If they do you can have the 785 fins for a 'Blue Steel' in your skinsuit.
If they've no plans to make 805 fins, then the pads are also useless to me and you can have the lot for an amount of cash less than they cost that we find mutually agreeable. :-*
Also in the 'hippy doesn't really do disc brakes and bought the wrong shit' list:

Work something out then you get back from your little European bike ride?

• #3942
Yeah cool. I really need to have a bike swap meet for all this shit.

"We are currently working with the factory to get stock of the pads for the newer shimano road calipers (RS805 & RS505). I'm afraid they may be a few months off yet, we don't currently stock a compatible pad"

Are there any aero/ bar end brake levers that would have sufficient pull to actuate a Juin/ HyRd brake? Asking for the fun of it.

• #3945
shimano ones likely your best bet.

Spyre recommends that you use their cables with their brakes, of course. So i bought their compressionless road cable set.
However there is a set of Jagwire KEB-SL cables already set up on the bike. A google search tells me they are too compressionless and around the same price. Is there any point swapping them out for the Spyre ones? -
• #3948
I'll say they're probably the same.
I've used BMX non-binding cables and I can say that they're just as good as Jagwire if not better since they're built to take abuse.
So yeah, just keep the Jagwires.

I use Jagwire compressionless with my Spyre, with absolutely no issues.

Help.
I've replaced the pads on my TRP Hylex brakes. But both front and rear both sides, are rubbing. I've pushed the pistons back flat, centred the rotors and ridden the bike about 15 miles using the brakes frequently. But still they rub. Any suggestions to save my burning quads?
I have the flat mount version. I can't see a FM-IS adapter on the list (working it out from their formula). It's all good though, the adapters from the Promax may do the job on a set of PM Spyres.
If anyone is after a set of mechanical flat mount brakes, give me a shout.
