Yep, and I thought I might not have done it properly, but the pistons seems as reset as they can be.

I need to inspect the pads after TABR. If they're fucked I'll probably try a set of these Ubers. I've still got a spare set of Shimano that I will carry.

I've got road BB7 on my bike (105 levers). Was one of the earlier bikes to come with discs as default so I've had them for seven years or so.
Is there anything better (cable operated as I have no desire to change the levers) out there now for a reasonable price?
I don't mind the BB7s but they do seem to need adjusting fairly regularly and it's always a bit of a faff to get them working optimally.

A lot of people rate Spyres more highly than BB7 but that's not been my experience.

Does disc brake cleaner remove the bedding-in layer, ie if you clean the rotors with it, do you need to bed your brakes in again?
-
• #3907
Depends how hard you scrubbed 'em
-
• #3908
I think it might. I had to run mine in again to get braking back up to par.
-
• #3909
Cheers. Reviews seem to suggest it may not be that much of an improvement.
I'm starting to wonder if the rotors are true, I'm having real trouble setting them up nicely at the moment.
-
• #3910
I haven't yet.
Got some squeaky brakes to silence and assume they weren't bedded-in properly.
So I was wondering if I'd need to sandpaper the rotors as well as cleaning them.

Well it sounds like a good scrubbing will get me back to square one, so less effort required from me.
Which is how it should be on a Friday.

Took bike in to LBS for a service and to get pointless crosstop levers removed. Asked guy serving to replace the brake cables with compressionless. Blank stare. You, know, straight strands, not coiled, I say - better lever feel for mechanical discs, so I've heard; not spongy. Oh, SIS cable, he says? Er, okay. My turn for blank stare. Whatevs. Go to work.
So I go to pick the bike up. Different guy. Did you fit compressionless brake cables, I say? Cue long explanation on why you can't use SIS cables for brakes, catastrophic failure, yadda yadda yadda. But I read it on my bicycle forum! I say.
Get home, find out you need specific reinforced compressionless brake cables that LBS obvs doesn't stock and has no idea about. Feel annoyed you didn't know this - and that they didn't - before you went in.
tl;dr: go somewhere they know about compressionless brake housing, or take your own and ask them to fit it.

If LBS don't know about it, don't use them.
(Shimano housing is technically a "low compression" one, other name is no compression housing).

So i have purchased a set of TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes to find on delivery that they are flat mount are i require an IS set.
The long and short of it is that i can't send them back to the seller as it's my mistake so i'm looking for a solution.
Is there some kind of adapter available to get these to mount or do i just need to buy the IS/post mount set? -
• #3919
Flat and post mount are different, be careful with those two.
Yes, an adaptors all you need. I used the ones from Superstar components for my Spyres on IS mounts. Other adaptors are available. Adaptors are dependent on rotor size too.

Right, i see. How exactly do i determine if the mounts are post or IS? The f&f is the Marin four corners and the brakes at the moment are Promax render R.
I had a look at the Superstar website but couldnt see a suitable adapter on the list.

Spyres are post mount (or at least, mine are). I used the PM-IS adaptors here.
Edit: Quick google makes it look like Marin Four Corners has IS disc mounts on frame/fork but with adaptors for the Promax brakes already. Could well be wrong. Worth googling and comparing different mounts at your end though to double-check

I bought them over eBay, he accepted a best offer price i made him. I failed to read the description properly so i feel it's my problem now, so I shouldn't make it his.
Did you spread out the pads? I.e. Put a clean flat headed screwdriver and open it up to "reset" it.
