  • I'd actually be in favour of an earlier start... say 6:15 or 6:30. Lats year a lot of people were stopped from getting to the Mall.

Unless a good pace can be really guaranteed (it can't) then an earlier start is probably a better thing to do.

I agree, but too early and the roads will still be open (though I guess there isn't much traffic at 6am on Sunday).

  • Missed this last year so in in in this year.

  • Not much traffic at that time, and we'll be rolling... shouldn't be a big issue.

We saw a little traffic last year too at the start... we'd just see that for 20 minutes longer but at least we'd get off in a time that might get the majority to the end before they really do stop people continuing.

  • Too early!

    +1
    Plenty before this happens.

... but it was alot of fun.

  • The ride last year sounded great fun. Little concerned about making it over from West London (She Bu) to Greenwich for 6am though. Especially as my knowledge of South London roads is zilch.

Is anyone else from the West going to do it? If there is I might tag along if thats ok? Or I'll end up riding around Peckham for 3 hours swearing to myself and getting more and more lost...

  • If you can get as far as peckham maybe some of the se15 lot will help you get the final few miles over :)

  • cheers 6pt, let me do a bit of research into routes and I may well take you up on that!

  • What a brilliant idea...I fear I'm not up to keeping up for 26 miles though, even at a "comfortable" pace - what's a comfortable pace anyway? My idea of comfortable is not really breaking sweat and riding around at about 12 mph...

braces self for peals of laughter and shouts of HTFU

  • ah bastard I'm away on the 17th, really enjoyed last year... Have a good one

  • Last year it was a fairly good pace. But people got split into groups who went at their own speed. Hence some people not getting to cross the finish line before the stewards blocked it.

  • im a westie and i'l be doing it but il be staying at my dads in blackheath. rather convenient.

  • Wimp :)

Wimp! You calling me a wimp?

… well okay I geuss you're right. Though it's not so much my legs I fear but enduring the wrath of Mrs Conker - "that's the whole weakend you've been riding Mr Conker, when's the decorating gonna get done? And don't forget you've still got to make the wardrobe doors!"

  • Last year it was a fairly good pace. But people got split into groups who went at their own speed. Hence some people not getting to cross the finish line before the stewards blocked it.

so yr saying i'm slow henry?

  • im a wesite and i'l be doing it but il be staying at my dads in blackheath. rather convenient.

    you're a wesite?

So your on the forum list of people who wish to change their forum name to Wesley

  • I know this isn't a race but, last time I did it (year before last) we had an issue around finish time interfering with the start for the para's etc.

In the knowledge that there are a few peeps here that would prefer to do this at pace, and that if we do so threre's a greater chance of finishing without annoying anyone: I would like to put propose a TT/TTT group to start first then drop off if one has a mechanical or can't keep up. At which point one picks up with the main group.

    Thoughts? (Fox, 6Pt, Shoots)

  • PS my butler wrote that ^ huffor!

  • Summat like that, yeah. Was going to just hit it as hard as I can (cf. 2010 Dunwich Dynamo) and enjoy the blast on clear roads. Everyone else be damned, but if they're hanging on then the more the merrier :)

  • I could cycle to the start in under a minute from my place. But won't because this is brutally early.
Is there a prize for being the laziest person on this thread?

  • What a brilliant idea...I fear I'm not up to keeping up for 26 miles though, even at a "comfortable" pace - what's a comfortable pace anyway? My idea of comfortable is not really breaking sweat and riding around at about 12 mph...

I was with the front group last year, and we averaged 17mph over the course.

  • Tbh that early parts of the route were still open to the public (you'd bs amazed how little time they get to use London's roads) so don't expect a blistering pace. But do expect it to be over 17mph average. Jus' sayin'

  • Oh and I can leave gear (water etc) at my office (if still there) currently 2 mins from finish line.

  • Yeah...reading the above I'm now pretty confident I'm not up to it...would probably be quite happy rolling along for 26.5 (or whatever it is) miles but I'd rather take my time over it, and there's clearly a time element at play, eh? Something to aim for next year though!

    Great vid btw shootthebreeze!

  • No no no. Ignore the pissing contest. The front runners will peg it round but there will be plenty of people having a roll round enjoying the empty roads.
