on a separate issue, i didn't really like the way we ran some of those red lights. i RLJ plenty but always when safe and polite to do so. we were taking the piss. only reason i went through every time is i didn't know the route at all so i couldn't afford to lose touch with the front!!
agreed. I really liked the ride, but not all the red light jumping, the not waiting a few seconds to reform the group so everyone got quite spread out and even more unorganized.
the riding into oncoming, over roundabouts, RLJ'ing, going round the roundabout the wrong way and all the other more "dangerous" styles of riding were the effects of having a very fast moving group that was loosely organised.
That may be true, but I don't think it's a valid reason to run a group ride in such a dangerous manner. It'd be different if it had been run in the early morning hours when the roads were already closed, but it was at night with some areas of heavy traffic. I just think a few minor changes and the ride would've been safer and less chaotic for everyone.
That said I had a great time, mostly because a bunch of us ended up forming our own smaller group.

yeah, definitely not promoting it at all.

That was good, I want to do again.
Yes, the ride wasn't very "sociable", could've stopped at red lights too. The front group was moving like a train - there was nothing, that could've possibly stopped us.
Good thing - that we all met at the finish.
Good effort everyone, especially the girl on Boris Bike.
I'm terrible with names.Later after the ride we bombed down like mad through the night traffic at Piccadilly and Shaftesbury Avenue at full speed, both of us brakeless - that was fucking awesome. Adrenaline ride.
Thanks Fasih for pictures.
I'm with Red Stripe. -

hmmm, maybe you were just clipping in but it looked like you had randomly pulled out of your pedals about 20 minutes into the ride, we had just began to pace it.

I dont know any names.
But there were several people riding without a brake.
Same on most if not all forum rides I've been on.
Stupid and dangerous to be riding a track bike not on a track, in a group.if you can't handle it...

I gotta say, before the ride I was really concerned about riding in a group with so many fixedriders, especially those riding brakless but apart from one or two iffy manoevres all the riding was of a pretty good skill level in the front group at least and I certainly had no issues.
Safety wise the RLJing was also fine (IMO), no crazy risks taken, agreed that it wasnt very social though.
That last blast down the embankment was fucking awesome though

Good to meet everyone on Saturday especially, Ash (i think), Bernie and Bearfoot. That ride down embankment was class - we were in a lot less pain than the people doing it 14 hours later.
Route from phone - if anyone knows how i can also upload the speed graph then please let me know.
re. the riding, apart from one red light in parliament square i felt it was pretty safe and in control.

If there is one person on the forum who cannot talk about dangerous activity on a forum ride, I think it might be you.....!

Stupid and dangerous to be riding a track bike not on a track, in a group.utter bullshit. It's the rider, not the bike. I've nearly been taken out by all kinds of people on all kinds of bikes. I feel a lot safer riding around with brakeless people than people on big heavy slow bikes that wobble and fall over when going slow ala tweed run anyway.

It was a shame the group got split up so quickly. Was v lovely site to see flickering red lights as far as the eye could see at Blackheath, but then people just seemed to disappear into the night and at one stage I though me and Cafewanda would be cycling the whole route my ourselves, but we quickly found another lovely group, and met up with ms chris' bunch.
The thing is, with such a large group and different skills/attitudes/fitnesss levels it would be hard to keep the group together and if people want to speed on, then fair enough! Re: the RLJ, well, again, that's up to people innit...I only did it once or twice on the quieter bits not wanting to lose sight of the person in front once I was back with a group who seemed to know where they were going!
Who was the bloke in the sorta green, orange and white (?) striped beanie, with headphones? Thanks to you fella for your directional skillz too!
Really looking forward to Guiness Ride now!
