If you feel it's fine playing polo when a girl is getting her head smashed up against the fence then by all means keep on playing.

So, finally some time to give some feedback (Jacob and Samson asked for it). If I'm being critical it's not because I didn't like it, overall it was a really good tournament, i'm just trying give you some ideas for next time.
The location was amazing, so central, and attracted loads of people to watch it.
Great to see so much help from the community in Copenhagen, loads of people helping out who weren't playing.
Having the two big TVs, and the soundsystems was a really good idea, the TVs made it so easy to see the standings, and who was playing next, and the soundsystems provided a good background, and probably attracted people as well (the really loud one on the Saturday could be heard from a long way away). Playing polo with dubstep being blasted out was pretty funny.
The courts were ok. I really liked the construction of court 2, especially the integrated floodlights, but I thought it was maybe a little big, especially compared to court 1, which was a bit smaller. But as Jacob said to me, that's the North American size. The surface was ok, it was nice and grippy, but a bit bobbly. Not much you can do about that though.
If you can next time, I would build another wooden court, the same as court 2, but then have both of them a little shorter. And see if you can maybe fill in some of the cracks in court 1.
The format of the main tournament was interesting. I think single player is a good format, but there are some problems, some with the format, and some with your software. The first problem was that it took most of the first day until the list was sorted fairly accurately, there were a lot of mismatches the first day, I played in games that I won and lost by 9 goals, and it felt like there wasn't much you could do to change the result, either you were a much better team, or a much worse team. The second day was much better, most of the games seemed even.
I don't know what you can do to resolve that, an initial seeding would only work for the first round. The one thing you could do is look at changing the games from the ABC style you used, to having the top 6 play each other, then the next 6, then the 3rd 6 etc. But then after a few rounds you would end up playing a lot of games with the same players (though the teams would be mixed around). Maybe look at playing some ABC games, and some games of groups of 6.
The next issue was the stand ins. As there were 28 players, the organisers decided to have 2 copenhagen players fill in for the 5th game. But if you had Jacob as the C player, that would give that team a huge advantage. On the second day they tried to have an appropriate player fill in, which was better. One suggestion to solve this was to have the software assign an appropriate player to fill in (but earn no points). While that's better, it does mean people playing extra games they get no credit for.
I think a better solution would be to allow the software to choose players from the next round. So with the 28 players, the first round would be 28 players + 2 from the next round. The second round would be 26 players +4 from the next round. The 3rd round would then be just 24 players. That way everyone will have played 3 games, and no need for standins. You would only have to be careful not to schedule players to playing at the same time in 2 games.
My next issue was with how the teams were drawn. I understand it tried to use an ABC principle, which is good, but it seemed to just go through the list, and assign the same positions to the same games. So 1 played 2, 3 played 4, 5 played 6 etc. Later in the tournament this meant a lot of players were playing with, or against the same players. For example I played with Erik 4 times, and twice against him, in the 10 games, and I played against Mikkel 3 times in a row.
I would adjust the software so it tries to avoid having teams which have played together before. So with 30 players, you have 10 As, 10 Bs, and 10 Cs. It should take player 1, and go down the list of B players to find one they've never played with, if there aren't any then a player they've only played once with, etc. Then the same with the C players. That should give you a better mix of games.
I didn't understand the seedings for the semi finals. My semi was Erik, Frank and me, against Nico, Danny and Andreas Lund. I'm pretty sure that Frank and I were near the bottom of the 12 players (Erik was something like 4th), and that Nico and Danny were the top 2 players (or maybe 1st and 3rd). That probably shouldn't happen, unsurprisingly it was a complete mismatch (11-1 I think?)
You could have done with someone to whip, to get the next players ready for games. Rounds should have been over in 40 minutes, but were taking a hour or more, as people were slow to get on court. It's cool to have a relaxed atmosphere, but we could have got more polo in.
You might want to look at having more refs, maybe using the winner stays on system. Jacob, Samson, and Cirkus reffed pretty much all the games, Jordan did a couple too I think. I'm sure the players were happy to not have to ref, but it's not really fair on you guys.
I really liked the idea of the semis, and the finals to decide the winners, rather than using just the list, but at the same time it was good to give the best prize to the best player.
A special mention to the guys who kept bringing beer to sell, a really useful service, and the same to the ice cream guy.
One of the best things for me was the practice days earlier in the week. Having two days of throwins, and then the Denmark vs RotW bench minor was a really good way of getting to know people, getting to know the courts, and getting into tournament mode. I would like to see this at more tournaments.
Really well done guys, you put in so much effort, so glad I came over, shame that more people from the UK didn't come. I played some great games, and made loads of new friends. I'll be there next year for sure, and hopefully see you some time next spring/summer if I visit my friends. Also you should come over to the UK to play at some point. I didn't expect you to have such a depth of good players, I only really knew about Samson and Jacob before I came, but especially some of the young guys are really talented.
