  • Standard is non-flashing, claim to be longer than 50% flashing.

I can see the confusion. Flashing has 2 modes. Non flashing has 3.
Mode 1 flashing (5hr10min) is equivalent to 100% non flashing (2hr25min). Mode 2 flashing (3hr) is equivalent to 150% (overdrive 1hr40min) non flashing.

Good light, but paranoia makes you charge it after every use.

  • I really like the exposure lights which, instead of a normal flashing mode, have a sort of 'pulse' mode where the light is on a low intensity steady setting with bright flashes every 0.5-1 seconds. Seems to solve most of the problems associated with normal flashing modes. They are stupidly expensive though, does anyone know of other lights that do the same thing?

  • Light and Motion Vis 180 does it better, and does not blinded the person behind you.

The top end lyzene and catseye ones do but for the money I would rather have 2 cheaper lights and set 1 flashing 1 constant.

imho they are worth the money. I use that mode on summer evening rides for a bit of visibility on rural roads. It ran the whole summer without needing to be recharged. I get 20+ hours on the lowest steady setting, and the highest setting is incredible and useful on the odd occasions when I just have to have the entire road lit up (heavy rain, tight corner, potholed road, unfamiliar route). In addition I have sold every one after about a year for not much less than I paid for it, and upgraded.
They are tough to buy the first time, but overall I rate them better than anything else on the market.

  • I'd agree. High quality lights that, once you get past the almost proprietary batteries, provide excellent value and performance.

  • Hmm. Do all the Exposure lights have it then? I've only ever encountered the Maxx D (fnar) which used to be their top-of-the-range model, I've never tried the Diablo or Joystick models which are the only ones I would ever really be able to afford...

  • really good like the comparison section

  • i.e. red on the front and clear/white on the rear. Or red on both front and rear. I see a few folk riding around like this.

Anyone know why? Are they simply thick, is there supposed to be some kind of safety advantage, or is it all part of a secret club I just don't know about?

I don't like to ask them, because I tend to keep myself to myself as I pootle about (unless someone's blatantly about to kill themselves or someone else), but am rather curious.

  • They're just idiots.

  • Theyre basically asking to die.

Ive seen someone with a non-blinking front red and strobe white rear, with their helmet on backwards.
I wondered if it was something like with caterpillars, fish and butterflies that have false eyes on their rear-ends to confuse or intimidate predators, but I don't see it catching on really.

    Darwinism in action.

One thing I'll happily reprimand someone on if I see it again though. Could seriously jeopardise theirs and someone elses lives.

  • It's actually white, but due to their awesome bike skillz, they're redshifting away from us mere mortals.

  • They're riding fast enough that there's some sort of doppler effect on the light they're emitting?
Damn, well that explains it. I'll leave them alone if they can break the laws of physics...

  • Thanks for clearing that up - I may start mentioning it to them.

  • Getting darker out there...
Nearly crashed into some twit who had every ugly Topeak item available bolted onto his bike. Except lights.

  • I only recently realized how Invisible a cyclist can be without a front light to driver. I always assumed rear light was key.

  • Who said that?

  • anyone used Fibre Flares? thinking of getting a big one for my bag.

  • Past Me, stupidly thinking the problem was mostly behind me.

  • Fibre Flares

A few people in the RCC do they seem quite tidy but haven't used myself

  • Anyone used Fibre Flares?

I have the "shorty" on my bag, it's pretty good. Recently it sometimes turns itself off (caused by bumps ? not sure) even when the batteries are good, but it is over a year old.

  • Yep, I like it but I would only use it as a secondary light in town. Out of town or group riding I use it as my primary rear light as the retina burner I use in town is overkill and very annoying to ride behind.

  • thanks chaps ^ / ^^ / ^^^

  • Out running this evening during the period of dusk/night and I saw about 5 drivers without their lights on.

As a ped (an cyclist I suppose), what's the universal sign to a driver telling them to turn their lights on?

As I was running at the time, if I saw a car without lights on for some reason I decided to veer off the pavement, run in the gutter and do a kind of jazz hands routine at them.
