Has anybody tried these direction indicator lights?
http://gadgets.guardianoffers.co.uk/p-982-Indic8or-LED-Bicycle-Safety-Lights.htmlThey apparently flash when you stick your arm out and stop when you hold the handlebars.
I might get some - they could be useful on my Vespa (which doesn't have indicators) as well as my bicycles. If I could get a small one to highlight my middle finger at night I'd be very interested in buying one

Neggy vibes.

Had some iffy talk with police "you should have a helmet and high vis" "yeah but those aren't legal requirements, classic cars should have air bags go hassle them, I have 2 sets of legal lights(both kinda crappy led ones)". Got myself 2x cree t6 lights coming, hopefully I get the same guy so he can give me a "well now you have too much light..."
Video with the same type of lights, not going to helmet mount as I can just see/imagine the dazzled drivers now.

I doesn't agree on the headlight part of the perfect setup - loss of depth perception on obstacles due to no shadow throw from headlight mount. Wide spread beam the winner (wide angle lens on T6) - handlebar mounted.

Flashed at again thismorning for having my light on medium setting (350lum) maybe pointing slightly up (still way below horizontal) so I can actually see where im going. Fucking twat drivers

Had 1200lm of strobe awesomeness on my bars on the way home today feeling great since I knew no one would miss me and someone still manages to pullout into me , "sorry I didn't see you" was the response...

Riding down a fairly busyish road and I see a guy up front (barely make out the shape of a cyclist) and get closer and see that he’s wearing a massive poncho (those ones the Asians wear in the monsoon (and its not even raining!)) which is hanging so low is covering his tiny rear light. So I go alongside and about to say ‘hey mate you know your…’ when I hear some mutterings and see that he’s on the phone as well!

This morning, foggy as fuck, all in black, no lights, bags of shit over each end of the bars, running red. You, sir, are a gift to mankind.

haha i should have mentioned that today was one of the foggiest days in recent months hence why i could hardly see him. what a doughnut

Stupidly foggy down in zone 6 today so I took out both of my 1200 lumen front lights with me which was the only reason I saw a nodder with no lights in really thick fog , upon asking him apparently high vis still counts when you can't see more than 10 foot

Front lights on steady beam are great fun in this fog, I was like a Jean Michel Jarre concert riding home last night, pew pew pew, lasers.

I just got one of these: Scorch
Normally they don't come with a flashing mode but Derick from Four4th was happy to get his software guy to add one.
So now as well as the solid high and low I have a seriously bright pulse mode with a 1200 lumen kick. The battery lasts 5 hours in this mode.
This is another great light from Four4th I use: Scorpion
It has 3x 120 lumen red lights then (in the mode I prefer) a green LED blast of over 400 lumens.

They look good but are just rebranded/branded cree lights with different battery configs so they use 14.8v instead of 8.4v(actual more like 7.4v, damn china). Lots of reviews of the cree lights say they can give out more but don't as the power suply isn't cut out for it so sounds like the guy has fixed the issues(that don't really make a difference).
My cree has 100%, 50% and 100% strobe out the box, it's a circuit on the led holder bit, not software.

The term used was 'software engineer' but I guess it doesn't really matter, these are great lights that do what I need.

Are there any specific rules on if you use flashing/solid lights or is it down to the riders preference?
As I understand flashing lights help give more perspective of distance.
Does anyone have a view?
-
• #744
A preference rather, flashing prolonged the battery life.

Flashing lights were not road legal for many years. They now are if they conform to the appropriate standard. However the vast majority of LED lights are ironically enough not legal in steady mode with the exception of certain European (largely dynamo) lamps.
A lot of people say that flashing lights impair distance judgement - others argue they are more visible. My personal preference is for steady lights but ymmv.
Certainly if you are riding on dark lanes you would be well advised to get a bright road legal steady light (eg. b&m, edelux, phillips).

Flashing should draw attention towards it, but makes it very hard to judge the speed something's travelling (try gettin a friend and a flashing light in a dark room and throw it between you...). Also saves battery power, but most good lights have batteries that last for ages anyway.
Best to have both, one of each, that also means you have a redundant light if one should break or batteries run out unexpectedly.

Apparently, the Moon Comet last longer when not flashing according to the box.

I think that just means that the 50% flash mode is a fair bit brighter when it's on than the "standard" continuous setting.
-
• #749
I doesn't. Flashing lasts longer.
-
• #750
Standard is non-flashing, claim to be longer than 50% flashing.
