If your looking to buy rechargeables its worth considering Sanyo Eneloop.
Lots of nerdy stuff on why: http://www.stefanv.com/electronics/sanyo_eneloop.html -

If it's AA or AAA then just get some rechargeables and a charger unit from Maplin which will cost about £20 and mean you spend loads less in the long run. If it's those little disc batteries then you can get about 10bn of them for a quid out of any old pound shop.
It's the little disc batteries. I can't think of any pound shops in central. I'll check maplin.

Not very many of them, tbh. I've got a set of somethings that use disc batteries but the lights were so weak in the first place that rather than replacing the batteries when they ran down I replaced the lights with better ones. I think they're Cateye something-or-others, but really cheapo ones. They're round-shaped with a white plastic surface and a single lonely bulb in the middle, and they attach to headtubes / seatposts using tiny bungee cords.
Edit - these things: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/cateye-sl-ld110-loop-led-safety-front-light/

Saw a bike, thought it had no lights, got closer to see one LED flashing. As I over took it turns out his rear light had multiple LEDs. His light was on a bracket, I assume designed to be mounted on the right hand seat stay. Instead he had cunningly mounted the bracket on the left hand side and swung the light inwards so it was hidden by his rear brake.
Next up was a lady on a bike, again it appeared she had no lights - this was not the case - just low batteries so the light was just a feeble glow.
Finally at Hammersmith gyratory a man on a hybrid with reasonable light and full dayglo asks me what the name is of my front light, and where to get one. It's reassuring there are some people without an utter deathwish.

I tend to say "your batteries are flat" when I pass.
Of course, this gets the best 'huh' face when they have no lights fitted.. -
• #509
They probably think you are saying "your batteries are fat" and the face they are making is "what a hypocrite"

Sounds like most of the females I saw cycling in Japan 10 years ago. You forgot 'holding an umbrella in one hand' though.

Heh, I was just looking at some older pictures to find that shot of my shoes- I'm quite a bit bigger than I used to be.

You should stop rubbing it, it'll go down.

It keeps coming back though, is that normal?

Yes, but you should stop before the blisters appear.

Two examples on Long Lane last night, one standard one amazing:
First. No front light, back light is a white light (ok maybe lost rear light/battery run out so not too bad)
Second. Had a front and rear light but the front one was pointing backwards. Maybe it was to light up her fluro gear so people could see her more easily....
