I'm following daily!
I hope the time off wasn't because there was a problem with the booms or the shield😩

Just glimpsed Mercury low in the west to the right of the crescent moon. First time I have seen it in many years!

What I find amazing is that there are 300000 stars in 326 light years around us. I did not reaslise how many there were so close to us...

galaxies are relatively dense places within the universe, but remember that volume goes as the cube of the radius, so this volume is a million cubic light years in size.

Crossover from middle aged thread - I would like to have been out staring at the moon but instead I am messaging siblings about a parent with dementia. Still, I did manage a photo at about 5pm and a video

Photo is much more saturated than most images of the Moon, are you sure that's not Mars?
Video looks good, but would be infinitely better if it's possible to shoot in landscape. Suspect it's something that afflicts the older generation (or maybe just me) but portrait video looks amateur even if the content is more worthy.

Thanks - I did up the saturation to highlight the different minerals on show. Mars is a bit too far away for my scope to capture much detail - the attached is about as good as it gets.

Haha, I saw the headline and wondered if it would be worth watching out for the impact, but I guess I’m in the wrong place.

Stargazerslounge and cloudy nights have always been ok when the bug has scratched

Cloudy nights! I knew there was one I used to use a lot when I was at uni. It was always very web 1.0 in style too.
Hopefully James May’s telescope proves fruitful!
