• I suppose that's a super rapid turn around for the next launch!

  • Well, they’re not going to be reusing that one...

  • Just caught up, can’t believe I went to bed!

  • 59 seconds of the Orion Nebula before supper today

  • I really want to take my own photo of the moon. Its amazing how little interest people have over it. But how critical its been for the developement of life on Earth and how rare it is.

Also, look at it! Its so close and yet so alien. With only a total of 12 astronauts have walked on the moon, including Armstrong and Aldrin. Ever. 12

  • amazing, is that with a dedicated astro camera and a telescope?

  • Thanks - it’s a standard dslr (canon 7d Mk 2) attached to a telescope (with a focal length of about 2000mm)

  • ChainBreaker's a moon hugger, who would have thought? :)

You could call it 'Operation Moonshot'.

  • I mean, he does ride like a lunatic!

  • He also crashes into craters from time to time.

That was many moons ago. I've been a star lately.

  • Super Massive, Super Nova?

  • It was cold out last night there were a lot of galaxies to be seen. Zoom in and count the fuzzy blobs! This is the Coma supercluster, over 300 million light years away, so the light that fell onto my camera sensor last night set off shortly after the mass extinction at the end of the Devonian period, when about 75% of species on our planet were wiped out by something.

  • Another great photo. Really cool to see

  • Any tips on where and when to look for good views of the milky way?

  • The milky way isn't much to the naked eye outside of a very dark spot. Almost nothing from London.

Most nights the band will pass directly over head, a telescope and camera combo can realise some great starry shots...

  • I’ve only seen the Milky Way in full glory three times in my life.

    • Italian Alps 1981
    • South African Game Park night drive 1995
    • Utah desert camping 2015

in all cases zero light pollution, suggest you go somewhere really remote in the UK.

  • And then you're too young to really appreciate what you're seeing...

It's now on my bucket list to see again. That and an active volcano.

  • Not really an observable astronomical phenomena but there's a minor solar storm on the go at the moment. Global HF radio communications are on the blink and aurora borealis are putting on quite a show.
