  • ha! You are right squire, sorry

  • Phew. Thought I was going nuts for a min.

  • Loake question:

Bought a lovely pair of brown Aldwych direct from factory/loake website. Question is: has anyone found a discrepancy in sizes? I usually wear 11 but have sent them back twice, and currently waiting for size 10...

3 weeks too late? Anyway if it helps I'm at least a size, or 1.5, down in Loakes.

  • Thoughts on these Tricker's derbies please? They're in a rather unusual and in my opinion nice waxed suede.

  • Like it or no, I think maintaining that look would require a fair bit Tricker-y.

  • I think they'll get quite scuffed up and develop a strong patina. I'm ok with that.

  • If that's the case, waxed options in the fashionable workboot world prove it's viability as a finish. Personally I like the look of items that show their age through appropriate usage.

  • Whether they are derbies like this of workboots in style, I'd still be sat at a desk operating AutoCAD rather than felling trees or blacksmithing. The mismatch of style and material appeals to me. It's not like they're dainty dress shoes. Ordered but might send 'em back, not sure :-/

    cheers

  • Just to clarify, appropriate usage should read more like care and feeding, doesn't matter what we use 'em for.
Like I said, the fashionable workboot world.

  • Ah, I see!

  • Shoe nerds, I require your help - I am, apparently, a 9.5 E, who does the now-rare E fitting?

  • Not sure if anyone is interested, but I have a pair of Grenson tassel loafers I want to shift. They're a size 7 and were factory seconds but there is no sign of this. Will do £50 for a forum member

  • "I'm looking at the Iron Ranger boot and wolverine thread.
I am a contractor and carpenter, and have pretty much worn boots everyday my whole life. The very last thing I want to do is wear them casually. I also have been through a few boots in my time (about 30 working years) and spent a wide range of money on boots. In the past I have had OK luck with Redwing wedges, so I thought I would get a pair of these premium boots for work, from the heritage boots. Ran me about 340 bucks. Not a bad boot, but almost worthless as a work boot. So they went to a neighbors kid who just got into the concrete business.
So with the far superior choices out there, like Justin or Thourogood, whats the draw of these depression-era looking boots? Just a fashion thing or what?
Comfort cannot be it, as a pair of Sanucks kill boots for comfort in general, unless you are in an actual working environment. I noticed in downtown Sacramento they seem to be prevalent among the young, pipe smoking hipster crowd, so I figured that must be a part of it.
    Please...if that's the case, don't. Just don't. If it's an heirloom thing, that's a little better.
I would prefer to see some boots that have been WORN, as in worn out. If you want comfortable in general, look at Redwing engineer boots for riding, or a justin pull-on with a crepe sole for general comfort. As for durability, no boot I have ever had has gone more that 8 months of hard work wear. Measuring durability in miles walked on sidewalk and carpet is just goofy, and is no metric on toughness.
    Brent."

    Make me chuckle a little

  • hemingway design for hush puppies, liking them

  • any suggestions for best suede protector?

shoes will be warn in grubby conditions, possible oil spills cooking or doing bike maintenance

  • brought a pair of the Grenson Fred V's and was surprised that being a UK9 usually I had to size down to a UK7 to get them to fit without feeling like a kid walking around in their parents shoes.
    Is this normal?

  • Yep, their sizing is usually out by at least one size

  • cool, got the fear for a couple of days there where I doubted what I knew about how shoes fitted me...

  • Got a pair of these Loakes using reserve and collect for £138 by using a discount code:

    http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_084010781573_-1

Fitting is massive, so bought one size smaller than I usually wear.
